As title, I might be getting a job at Coventry airport near Baginton. What's the area like, as I may consider buying a house there to save long commutes, where is decent & where should I avoid?

Personally I'd rather live in Kenilworth and commute in - 20 mins or so tops.

I'm not from Coventry, but grew up in Leamington

Whatever you do, don't buy anything close to the airport - it's a sthole round there...

You'd be better off looking at Cubbington, Lillington. Both are only 10 minutes to the airport, the only problem being, property is a fair bit more expensive than Coventry

Coventry is a dump.

Leamington Spa/Warwick and the villages around it are nice but expensive.

Avoid Coventry, especially the town centre. As has been said, Leamington, Warwick, or Kennilworth are much better bets. The airport at Coventry has a couple of departures at midnight - 1am, so if you live near there maybe invest in some ear plugs.

Having said that we are in the process of buying a house with a Coventry postsode...but it's on the very tip of the fringe!!

Have a look at Rugby, it's only 10 minutes straight down the A45 and you're at the airport.

On the upside, and judging by your user name, you'll fit in well with the Willenhall locals - they like Cosworths

On the downside, they don't necessarily like paying for them. Back in the early 90's, if a Cossie went missing from within 20 miles of there, that would be the first place the police would go looking

Enjoy Tollbar island. That is about the only place in Covenrty that is always mentioned in the morning and evening traffic reports.

Willenhall, the area next to Bagington, is a dump. Night flights mentioned already.

Steer clear. I spent 4 years living in Wyken, nearer the centre. I moved to Nuneaton a few months back. My work is in Coventry, so that gives you an idea of my opinion.

That said, there are a select few flowers in that pot of dirt. I just can't remember them.

Agreed - I used to work not far from there, and it is lovely, but pricey

There used to be a cracking little sports car specialist in the centre of Meriden - always had some nice metal on display

I grew up in Coventry but now in London, but still know the city well.

Some real rubbish spouted on here - I mean Nuneaton being better ffs!

How much is your budget as that will determine location?

Just near the airport is Ryton (as good as being in Coventry) where houses go up to about £700k.

You can then look at South coventry near Warwick Uni - houses typically range from £2m - £450k

You've then got Earlsdon which is a nice area within Coventry - but again you're probably looking at £200k+?

If you've got a budget of £100k then select parts of Radford are not too bad - for example Cheveral Ave etc

Really need to know your budget to properly help....

Leamington Spa was the only place I've been to in the midlands which had police related CCTV cameras on residential area street lights - Brunswick St about 2 mins away from the Parade.

Unless you go to a village then the same applies to all cities/towns - there will be good and bad areas...a bit like buying a £2m pad in Fulham and having a dodgy area about 2 mins away...

Eastern Green?, Earlsdon, Allesley Village. All pretty easy access to the A45 and Bagington.

Depending on budget, Kenilworth and Stoneleigh may be worth considering

When I was a student, my holiday job was at Bagington, I was paid in flying lessons smile . Loved working there, was a few years ago but took about 15 mins from my parents house in Eastern Green

Expensive -it's time close to the south( Rugby is on the West coast main line route to Euston). I'd look at the north side ,if you can travel that far. Nuneaton was one of the cheapest in the area some time ago , and it's not too far from Baginton. It's just picking the right time to travel .Like not wanting to get to the M6 after 8AM. But then , J2 /M6 can have tailback problems. Although ,there's always the country routes, especially if you live toward Bulkington. And there's a few villages around .

The Nuneaton News ( version of the Heartland News) has a free paper on Wednesdays, with a house section .If you can get a copy , and see something you like , feel free to PM for my idea of the area ( that's Nuneaton only ) , and it would only be my opinion . But you'd be surprised. My daughter owns/rents out her (ex council ) house in what is termed as one of the bad estates in this town . And ( possibly because it's a cull de sac / and mostly owner occupied) -it's a nice place to live.

Agree with all of that

Later he says budget is up to 140k. For that kind of money, nice house and nice area and not far from the airport Ernesford Grange is your friend to add to all the above. Finham and Whitley are worth looking at too (especially if you like cars as the Jag development centre is in Whitley so good for prototype spotting)

Another Treacletowner . I moved here from a dump not far from the old GEC plant in Stoke. OH-and whilst he can get out via Bulkington, he's still got to navigate Kami kazi island to get to Bagington .

Spent 10+ years in Cov, recently moved out.

For your budget you'll either get a small place in a dodgy part of Leamington (Lillington has good and bad bits) or a flat in an OK bit. Commute thru the back-roads to Baginton is pretty good though. I suspect the 'villages' (Ryton, Stretton, Hunningham, Binley Woods etc.) are out, price-wise.

Or you can live in Coventry itself...your budget will get you a 2-3 bed house in an OK area. As mentioned above, traffic around there can be a right PITA...so worth investigating.

My 2p? House prices aren't really climbing at the moment, esp. not in Coventry (we bought there 10years ago and our house increased in % value only 2/3 as much as some friends who bought in Stratford at a similar time...and S'ford prices in the same period were caught-up by Leam and Kenilworth!), so I'd be tempted to rent somewhere, try it out first, and also see how the job goes...

Just seen the budget of up to 140 k - might be worth looking at Nuneaton area , but NOT Camp Hill new builds. Seen some nice places in estate agents for less than that and in nice areas of the town .
