It would appear I am a few weeks behind the news, but it's a slow morning and I have just noticed this.

Would they really do that? I imagine it would be total chaos.

I really hope they don't - especially after the money that's just been spent on them.

I can't envisage any other method of getting through the city as painlessly as possible. I understand the 'weaving' argument but that can be resolved by limiting the exits of the A38 itself and honing the road as a 'through route' only.

It would also be a shame to lose the ability for an impromptu tunnel run, too. Not that the council would care about that...

What a waste of money that study is...Underground car parks and more cycle routes ...oh yes, that's a great idea.

Meanwhile, back in the real world!

what an absolute load of rubbish,

BBC said:
By 2031 Birmingham's population is projected to grow by an additional 150,000 people, the report said. It said this could lead to 80,000 more cars in the city.
Really, so more than 1 in 2 people that move to the growing second city are going to be driving a car? are none of these children or elderly folk or in the future are we allowing anyone who can walk, the ability to drive a car?!

BBC said:
The report proposed investment in walking and cycling provision, including more than 350km (217 miles) of new or upgraded cycle routes.
and cycling to work is just so practical? another report created by some eco nutter that drives are Prius or a Brompton. If cycling was so practical, we'll all be doing it, but it isn't so give it a rest!

BBC said:
A council report said the tunnels created a "noisy unattractive barrier to intra-centre movement".
it's only noisy if you are standing in the tunnels!! Far quieter above them, and lets face it, it'll give the royals another option other than Paris if they don't like Kate.!

You only need to have been in the city this summer to see the effect of closed tunnels: gridlock everywhere even without school traffic.

The council are idiots I'm afraid (no new news there though).

That's what I though. I had to go a different way to work when they were closed and it was mayhem, they should be considering building new tunnels not closing these ones.
