I'm taking Mrs Peanut away to Stratford Upon Avon this weekend and was hoping to get some suggestions for places to eat.

We have tickets for a production at the RSC which starts at 1930 so would ideally like somewhere relatively local to there, or at least within reasonable walking distance. Would prefer to avoid Indian and Chinese restaurants as they don't always agree with my other half. Not really got a budget in mind but don't want to go crazy, need some funds left for the inevitable retail therapy!

Cheers

I've been to the Oppo a few times - always a very pleasant experience. http://www.theoppo.co.uk/default.php

There's a Carluccio's across the street from The Swan theatre too.

The Vintner (on Sheep Street I think) is worth a look, too.

If you don't mind spending a bit of cash, the Arden Hotel across the road from the RSC is a very nice place !

Unless you like overpriced antiques or jewellery, or tourist tat, you'll be fine on the shopping spree front wink

The best dinner places have been suggested, but for 'tea' go to Hobsons loveyum

It's by the Post Office, opposite Barclays - SoA is tiny, you'll not get lost!

Agreed it looks a nice place but i had a very bad experience!! Food was over priced and tasted like it was out of a bag! to boot i had my Ferrari keyed on there car park and they were less than helpful.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Had afternoon tea at Hobson's yesterday and it was fantastic, had to drag herself away from the cake counter! Went to the Oppo for dinner and wasn't disappointed, the beef bourguignon was delicious but trumped by the home made rice pudding with plum compote. Great selection of wines too.

Ended back at Hobson's this afternoon and was delighted to find them selling cakes off at a pound a go, so would have been rude not to bring some home.

Also managed to stumble upon (and almost out of) Vinology up near Shakespeare's birthplace, so many lovely whiskeys and the owner really knows his stuff. Had to be very restrained with tastings wink

Fantastic! Had standing seats up at the top but a good view and the performance was top class. Staff were excellent too, you could see that they had a passion for it. Glad it's only a couple of hours away as will be returning for more.

Think you picked some of the best places there, glad you enjoyed yourselves!
