I'm thinking of going to Wales on the 30th Dec or the 6th Jan. Either on my own or with a max of 2 others. Going in a 20 car pack, is like taking your own traffic jam with you. It also attracts to much attention. If you just want a drive out, then thats fine. But the roads in Wales are to good to waste.

Hmmm, interesting point. You can 'let yourself go' a little if it is only a couple of cars. Was thinking about maybe just going along for lunch and then do my own thing. I may as well go along for the first part though as it starts just down the road from me smile

However, if the weather is as 'nice' as it is atm.... rolleyes

Anyone ever done 'The Devil's Staircase', the mountain road heading west to Tregaron?
It's a regular drive for me and it is a ride and a half!

Normally stay well north of that. I use a lot of the roads me and Tony used to ride our bikes on.

I have generally kept to mid-Wales, there's something about the Llandrindod Wells, Rhyader, Builth Wells, etc, areas which attracts.
Brecon Beacons are awesome in spring, best on weekdays in school term time!

I have cousins in Tywyn who keep a cafe, so when we went on a Saturday I'd call in.

This is a shame, as mrs m & I will be in south wales at the time curse

We will, however, make up for it on the way back to Salop by doing Swansea to Telford by (memory please help!) Ammanford, Llandovery, Llandeilo, Llanwrtyd Wells (stop off to wipe saliva from map....), Builth Wells, Knighton, Clun, Bishops Castle, and Shrewsbury driving

Seriously guys, do the Tregaron road once. (We bought a property at the start of that road at Abergwesyn in 2002, which we sold in 2004.)
It's amazing that the rally boys hurtle down roads so tight and twisty and with huge drops one side, they must have balls like boulders. biggrin

We ended up getting separated from the group and didn't have a route map doh headache

Ended up doing another lap of the triangle and then headed to bala and then back to shrew. Was a cracking day though, will be comming on another one. Although the grale' will be comming to pieces at the end of the month as I need some helicoils fitting to head where that bolt found its way out... Still, it means I will be doing some fettleing at the same time evil

Should be able to 'properly' keep up with you lot then! haha
