That's the next port of call for us, in 3 weeks' time.

Not really looking forward to the hotel's 'special treatment' of a 40 degrees C hot tub, followed by a plunge pool, kept just above freezing!

They say it does you good! eek

I like the sound of the hot tub but I honestly don't think I could bring myself to plunge into freezing water. I guess it's good to try everything once (well, most things anyway).
I know it's quite a popular thing to do and have been led to believe it is meant to be good for you somehow(that's assuming the shock doesn't kill you).

Have a try of the Geothermal Mud Baths then, as they're supposed to be good.

I didn't try them myself as I was only there on a day-trip from Liverpool.

I went recently. Really enjoyed it.

Take a look at www.icelandexcursions.com to see some of the planned trips. I'd recommend some kind of jeep / offroad tour, Northern Lights and a trip to the Blue Lagoon on your way back to the airport.

Beer & food is very expensive though.

Yep, landing in the capital at 23.45 hours, as we've booked cheapy flights!

The shock of the water treatment sounds like it might be severe!

Yep - fantastic weekend

www.bigburd.com/iceland2007

Tip if you go on a superjeep safari with http://www.daytour.is request that you don't have Dave (an English chap as your driver as he is too nervous) - Ragnar, his wife or any of the local nutters are best option

I went about 3 years ago. It was in February so the daylight is a bit limiting, gets light around 9am I think, but Winter is the better time to go. Everything's white, as opposed to Summer, when everything's black! I'm sure we stopped at the Radisson there, which was pretty central

See if you can get out on a skidoo. We bumped into Dom Joly and his party on our trip, and saw him again at the skidoo place. He stacked it quite monumentally into the side of a mountain. Dog sledding's good as well. Most of the excursion places can arrange this for you, work of warning though, wear boots!

Drinks are quite expensive out there, we were paying about £8 a pint. First night we went out there we thought it was a bit quiet and went home around midnight. Spoke to a cabbie next day who told us most people dont go out til around 1am!

The Blue Lagoon is worth a visit, I think thats whats been referred to above.

Perlan is an interesting restaurant, it's a cab ride to get there, and make sure you book a cab to get back, it's quite remote.

You can have fun just by wandering around, see what you bump into

Spectacular place, would definately go back, just for the views!

Stunning place. Sod the treatment, go to the Blue Lagoon.

Play in the snow on dog sleds, snowmobiles, and in the big 4x4s.

Beer was about £7.50 a bottle when I was there about 2001 (or was it 2003?).

Expect the credit card to get hammered, but it's worth it. smile

I forgot about the Ice Bar. As you might imagine, it's a bar, made of ice. They give out jackets and drinks if you pay entry to one of the private rooms.

not that kind of private room

The travel company have now made it 21st out, 26th back.
Nice of them to give us so much warning!

Anyway, Blue Lagoon is booked.
Snowmobile, (1,000cc, 100 bhp, two-stroke triple engine) is booked.
Plus a Northern Lights search and a half-day with the Huskies!

That's pretty much the core of it. Worth doing the glacier trips with the big trucks, and the obligatory trip to see the Geysers (pronounced Gay-see-er)

When it snows, the Icelandic come out to play. They're all loons, and great fun. smile
