Any PH'ers in the Nottingham area?
Discussion
I originally posted this in The P&P...
Hello,
I find myself trapped in "Luft Stalag" Nottingham for the next few months working on a project, and was wondering if any PH'ers fancied getting together to form an escape committee?
Failing that joining me for the consumption of ale, pies and discussion of all things automotive in one of Nottingham's finer hostelries?
Cheers,
Big X

There's a semi regular Tuesday meet of PHers, Stackmonkey, BG, Plasticpig etc, keep your eye on the midlands forum.
There's a car meet first wednesday of the month at the Griffin's Head, Papplewick, and a monster car meet at Ashby Folville second Tuesday of the month.
...to name but a few!
Good luck (and don't be rude about Nottingham)

;) I'm not being rude, though the city centre one-way system does seem to have been designed by someone on drugs...I'll try and make one of the meets, do people tend to drive or are there any events in the city involving volumes of beer above one pint??

There have been some PHer curry/beer nights organised by the Tuesday night club.

Hello from a Nottingham PHer!
The one way system is a real pain. There was nothing wrong with the old one. I put this point to someone in town planning and they put up a pretty convincing argument in its defence, not that I can recall the reason why it is better or was necessary.
As others have said, we do have regular Tuesday meets. Unfortunately we haven't had a Saturday night since last summer when only half the people turned up to the small family run restaurant. An improvement on the thirty per cent show the year before though. It's a shame really as they did used to be good nights out.
If you see a sherry coloured, lowered Corrado VR6 with a Nurburgring sticker on its rear driving around the city that'll be me so give me a wave

If I see your Corrado, I shall indeed give you a wave! If you see a black SLK with the driver swearing at yet another red light, that'll be me

I think I'll suggest a drinks meet up for Thursday next week and see if I get any takers... The pub that's close to where I am staying (The Ropewalk) is The Trip to Jerusalem, which is nice, but can you recommend anywhere else in the vicinity?
Cheers,
J.

The Castle, just up the hill and opposite the entrance to the castle is quite pleasant. I don't go out drinking in Nottingham very often (I did far too much of that in my youth
). I sometimes go for a lunch time drink at Dogma on Byard Lane, opposite Paul Smith's original shop and just up from Cafe Rouge. The Cock and Hoop on High Pavement, opposite the Pitcher and Piano (a dive on a weekend) is great and lovely and quiet. I'm told that the food is excellent there too, though not cheap.
I'm not sure if i'll be free next Thursday but if I am and there is a group meeting up I'll do my best to come along.

As Emma has said, we haven't had a Notts night out for ages, and they used to be really good. The Greek night was great, but as mentioned, a poor turnout, but me & Tom were steaming in our own drunken self obsessed comedy double act IIRC
Count me in, I'm quite happy to go with the flow, so if someone can nominate a date, time, starting pub, restaurant, etc. I will eat, drink, and talk b

Your quip, "Don't easyjet want there seatbelt back?" was hilarious in reference to Tom's rather bright red woven seat-belt type material jean-holding up thing around his waist.
