What relible garages stock leaded four star petrol in the Derbyshire area?

I know Sainsburys in Ripley do but they have shut for refurbishment and whether they will carry on stocking four star is another matter!

Oh thanks for informing me, I'm sure it says Four star on the tanks!! That stuff is not as good am I right?

I want either proper four star or unleaded and this tetraboost.

What do all of us who ran leaded cars think to the Castrol stuff, it's on offer with the MGOC lol!

These are ones listed in Derbyshire though best to phone before driving.

Ladywood Petrol Station
Baslow Road
Holymoorside
Chesterfield (on the A619 Chesterfield to Stockport, from M1 junction 29)
Derbyshire
S 42 7BN
Telephone 01246 566 312
Opening hours Mon - Sat 7am - 7pm, Sun 7am - 8pm

The Cottage Filling Station
Derby Road
Swarkestone
Derbyshire
DE 73 1JB
Telephone 01332 700 304

Woodbine Garage
Sin Fin Lane
Sin Fin
Derby
Derbyshire
DE 24 9HW
Telephone 01332 766 074

Depending on your mileage, you might find that rather than using 4 Star or Unleaded + an additive, having hardened valve seats put in the cylinder head isn't such an expense (you could have it gas flowed at the same time.) It's what I've done on both my Rileys, much less hassle and concern at getting the doseage right or not being able to find the right fuel.

Thanks seen those garages on a website.

As for having the car converted, it's a little strange that it hasn't been done as it has been fully restored!

Nicola, just use an additive, like this...

http://tetraboost.com/

I used it in my '49 Bentley, I can highly recommend it.

This stuff is actually a real lead additive, to make real leaded petrol, it is not a lead substitute like the others are. It also has the added benefit of being an octane booster too. Classic racers use this stuff, rather than the many others that are recommended by the FHBVC. They will all be OK though, but you need to pick one brand and then stick to it.

If you buy yourself a box of this, you can buy regular unleaded anywhere, just put a dose in at each fill up.

Am I right in believing you shouldn't mix additives, i.e. switch from one to another due to the different chemicals used? I seem to remember reading this in a FHBVC newsletter (I think!) a few years ago but as I've never used the stuff it didn't really sink in.

yes

Might as well stick to the Tetraboost, it's reckoned to be the best by those who should know.

I've been getting leaded four star for the race car from woodbine garage in derby, but i think they are out of stock now and he's unsure when or if he'll be getting any more. I need the lead as it's a very expensive longman head and the valves are so big you cant fit unleaded seats. Would the additive work OK i know most people who i race with use millers CVL? unless they are minted and use sunco race fuel.

Tetraboost will work fine as it effectivley creates 4 Star petrol. You can also use it to create you own racing fuel. Using Shell Vpower or other high octane fuel you can create fuels with a Octane rating of upto 106. See http://www.tetraboost.com/info/dosage/ for more info.

I'll bring the article I wrote and illustrated along to our next meeting, whenever that will be.

Riding in it was like being on a boat (suspension) and I felt like royalty. I've never seen a car attract so much attention (along with a Camaro Z28 biggrin )

I don't need to worry about this now because my new car has been converted to unleaded!
