I need help, perhaps I should go to the Doctors, for a referral. Been cleaning the car you see. Started on Tuesday, booked a day off and spent the whole day cleaning the wheels and the inner arches, just those items, nothing else.

Today, started at 8.30am, finished at 8.30p, that's 12 hours, didn't do lunch or dinner, worked right through, just the odd cup of tea and 2 litres of San Miguel. Washed & leathered the car, then clayed it, then washed & leathered it again, then went over it with scratch X, then went over it with paint cleaner, then this evening, gave it a coat of Zymol Concours wax.

And you know what? I think it looks st, it's rubbish. There are a few water marks on the roof and bonnet, the clay, the scratch X and the paint cleaner didn't fetch them off, and the wax has sealed them in. So I need to do it again, but buy an in-line water filter for the hose pipe first, or use bottled water to rinse it with before getting the leather on there pronto.

I am sure that to most eyes, the paint looks like obsidian, but to me, it looks like a field at Glastonbury.

Please, somebody shoot me!

Tomorrow is another wasted day in my life.

I sympathise chap.

We passed on the Rolls today, but the prep work was arduous to say the least (and I still wasn't happy with the finish, even though she sold).

As you say, wash, dry, clay, polish, wax. All done in the punishing humidity we've had in the Midlands over the last two days. We stored the Rolls at RAF Cosford in a secure compound, but the water there is very hard, so even drying with a shammy and using Meguiars and Peek products the final finish was - to me - 2nd rate. Even though she looked sensational, I still saw water marks (none on the grille though, I made sure of that!).

BTW, I still eulogise to mrs m about the Bentley. "You should have seen it!".

Well in that case I need shooting as well. Spent all day friday on the Jag washing, claying, tar removing, then polishing with my Meguiars G220. 10 hours worth of work and the swirl marks maybe slightly reduced. Somwhere in its previous ownership I think someone washed it with a scouring pad. So today it was clay it again, pre wax clean it, apply a sealant, wax it.

I am going to call in the proffesionals next year as I am not confident enough to use a rotary polisher and a heavy duty cutting compund on the Jag.

As for your watermark problem. I use a plant sprayer with water from the waste tank of my tumble dryer to rinse off the car. Its effectivley distilled water.

Warren, I suspect your "retention" is getting excessively "anal" - perhaps a sense of perspective is needed here?

In a past life I was a concours judge and used to wear white cotton gloves to check under wheel arches.

Maybe I should get them out again.

clap

Been seriously thinking of a machine polisher smile

If I had not used hard water and it wasn't such a hot day, it would have been a much better job, so my own stupid fault really. Put another coat on this afternoon though, seems to be OK.

Can I be next in line to take a shot. Sunday I finished tinkering with the e30, hosed the car down, bucket of water and wash'n'wax, 10mins job done. Monday evening thrashed the balls of the car round Donny, Tuesday driving into work. Its a car you're meant to drive it, (door) knobs are for polishing!

Regards
Iain

Have you ever seen expectant fathers in a hospital waiting room, sweating with tension, unable to concentrate or function, barely able to eat or drink?
This is BG if someone else offers to clean his car.
