The Midlands Challenge! (AKA 'The LittleMidgitGem Trophy')
Discussion
The Alfa went in for a wheel bearing replacement and the garage found quite severe problems with the suspension and other bits, so much as to make it uneconomical for us to repair.
So...Judas needs a new daily driver, hence the title!
The challenge for the Midlands 'Posse' is to post links to cars for sale that fit the criteria below. If Judas buys the car I will buy you a pint or several (or a white wine for the ladees!) at the Christmas bash (or when I see you next!) If he keeps it for a year and/ or it lasts more than 12 month without exploding in a fireball of smoke and cogs I will buy you more pints at the 2009 'do'!
Criteria
Max budget £2000
No classics (pre mid eighties)
Pre 2001 for tax purposes
Preferably RWD
Fun to drive (essential!)
Fairly economical (i.e. 24mpg+
)
Not be hard to get hold of parts or be stooopidly expensive or require a Cray supercomputer to diagnose errors.
2 seats is fine, more is useful but not essential.
Nothing in Jewish Racing gold with a Burberry check interior please (sooo last year girlfriend!);)
Auto is fine for barge wafters, otherwise manual.
And possibly the most difficult criteria, one that in the immortal words of Nicola 'will be a keeper'
So far under consideration (and this should give you an idea of how much latitude there is)
BMW E34 540i Touring ( http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/797012.htm )
The obligatory MX5
Alfa 156 2.5V6
Oldish Mercs (190Es, 300s)
Jag XJs
Audi A6
Ford Cougar
Although we have considered a Porsche 944 too, just to see the look on the neighbours face (he didn't speak to us for about 6 weeks when we got the 348
)
Very cheeky I know, but I am offering alcohol in exchange for your help in preventing Judas meandering down the path of serial car purchasing!

1) The Cougar is FWD
2) They were US designed
3) They are horrific
4) The Mk2 Mondeo is V6 trim is a better car in every respect
Mercedes E320 Coupe haggle hard and shop wisely you might just bag a good one for 2 bags, watch out for the self destructing under bonnet wiring loom though.... make sure its already been replaced!
Mid to late 90's C280 maybe?
E34 ... cant go wrong, had two 'on the fleet'
with a third in the pipeline (to replace current 520i)

S13 Nissan 200 SX - might be hard to find one without a massive rear wing and DRIFT KINGZ stickered on the sides, though.
See, I did think of these two. Problem is any high(-ish) performance Jap car this cheap will have been absolutely ragged to death
