Does anyone know about the cameras that have just appeared on the A448 from Redditch to Bromsgrove? I've just returned from a short drive and noticed them being put up.

Two gantries appeared a few weeks back (the first near the Foxlydiate / Brockhill junction in Redditch and the second down at the Oakles junction in Bromsgrove) and today, they've each had a pair of bright yellow cameras attached.

I was going the oposite way so couldn't see properly, but it looked like a SPECS type system...

Anyone know any more?

I noticed the gantries too. At the time I passed they were both on the sde towards Bromsgrove. If only that side receives cameras I can only assume it's to cut speed as people pass the estate on the left as you apprpach that roundabout.

I got my 1st ever points by a Police car parked up in the entrance to that estate a few years ago. They obviously have some motivation for reducing speeds there, although I have no idea what it might be.

I got points there too 8yrs ago. Evel Knievel hiding behind the sign with a hairdryer. Like you, I've no idea what their motivations are aside from cash - I don't believe it's a particularly accident prone spot.

I'm not sure that slowing people down approaching the Oakles is the reason, afterall, there's a big bend and an island there so that generally does the job!

If it's roadworks fair enough, but they've never stopped digging that damn road up, so I fail to see what else they can do to it!!

Hey that's a good point. They **do** seem to be digging that road up regularly. In fact, same carriageway but nearer to me (Redditch) they caused some queues by the Tardebigge exit not a month back.

That time they had all the contraflow and thespotlights at night... I thought that would end up with the carriageway all nice and flat but there's still that hateful hump on the Redditch-bound side a little after you come off the Bromsgrove roundabout. In fact, the many changes in surfaces are all punctuated by humps that would separate a Caterham from its sump pan.

They are average speed cameras under test at the moment, dont know when they will go live but I would guess very soonfurious

Boo, use that road regually to. It cert isnt a accident prone spot, speeding yes tho. They are average speed camera's, SPECS. Just have to go the back way to redditch and home, through tardebigge for a blast!

They seem to be, at the moment, only on the Bromsgrove-bound carriageway, so I will have to take it easy when taking nipper to Sanders Park, but I can hoof it on the way home.

Was a post on another forum about similar sounding cameras (can't find it now, either GG, or SP & L).

EDIT -

Thanks for the notice I commute along the A448. There was a big crash recently that closed the road, about 2 months ago now?

There's a sign on them atm saying that the cameras are for "equipment testing purposes only" so no doubt they will be going "live" once they've been tested enough.

Had a nice little play with an M3 in my Cobra along there a couple of years ago as well!!

Cheers,

Tony

From this discussion http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... it would seems to suggest that the cameras are for ANPR.

maybe they are ANPR cameras, but why are there 2 of them! that would suggest average speed

i've not been down the road for a while, but from memory, the cameras on the gantry over the carriageway have the mini gun-cannons either side of them, which usually mean SPECS.

Interestingly, at the side of the road on a pole (behind the SPECS gantry) is a Monitron speed camera.

This setup is mirrored both at the Brockhill junction and at the Bromsgrove end...

It's an odd setup! Has anyone phoned Bromsgrove council to quiz them???

I agree with the SPECS theory... ANPR wouldn't need two sets.

Also, it's an unlit stretch of road so how well can they 'see' in the dark? Perhaps that's the test - a new camera that can see in the dark?

Regarding there being 2 sets... I probably ought to go for double-check but between the 2 sets, are there any exits from the road? If so, then surely it makes speed measurement a bit hit and miss?

Nope, no turn offs down there. What I don't understand is why there are (what appear to be) SPECS cams AS WELL as Monitron speed cameras!! They really don't want us to get away with anything do they!!

It's a shame my Ariel "lost" it's front plate wink

Would think yes as they've put some lights up by the cameras.
