I need to tow a small speedboat on two wheel trailer from South Birmingham (Redditch/Solihull) to Peterborough for a new engine to be fitted. As this is only a 3 hour job I will return the same day. Two weeks later I need a tow bar vehicle again to deliver the boat to Ramsgate as it is being shipped from there overseas. Anybody know who hires vehicles with a tow bar?

Checked with
Enterprise Rent-A-Car
BRYANT HOUSE, WASHFORD DRIVE
PARK FARM
REDDITCH, B98 0HX

Agent informed me that Enterprise do not rent out tow bar vehicles - thanks anyway.

Thanks - unfortunately their nearest depot to me is Shrewsbury - was really looking for someone in the South Birmingham/West Mids region.

Most of the commercial vehicle rental companies will have vans or 4x4s with towbar and pins, but generally you need your own insurance cover. If they supply insurance, it does not cover the load and trailer, nor will it cover any damage if the trailer goes into the back of the vehicle, or worse, jackknifes/rolls taking the vehicle with it.

surely you know someone with a tow bar? I'd help but just had a new clutch fitted and won't be able to tow for 4 weeks

Put a post up to see if you can get it driven there with you for a cover cost and a little extra, it will probably cost less

Got a couple of mates with towbars (track cars) but both work during the week and weekends/evenings not suitable given the distance and work involved plus they have already helped once or twice and I would prefer to keep them as mates! Think I may have found someone with a flat-bed - price quoted is Birmingham > Peterborough (3 hour wait whilst engine fitted) > Birmingham then 2 weeks later Birmingham > Ramsgate ..... guy wants £300 which doesn't sound too bad to me - any other help/ideas? Have an Alfa JTD at home but really don't want to bother with the fitting of a tow bar (£200)as won't need it again.

had a simillar prob when i wanted to hire a van with a tow bar to tow the race car a couple of years ago. Most hire companies dont like hiring out vans with tow bars incase you abuse them too much, which would never happen i'm sure.....lol
