Well it had to come along sometime didn't it? hehe This time it is me not Judas who has to make some decisions on cars.

I have a problem in that I get quite emotionally attached to cars so much so that as some of you know Judas bought back my TVR Chimaera after we had to sell it for a potential fight with TVR over the knackered Tuscan. Pathetic I know but that is just the way I am so it has to be factored in to the equation.

The dilemma is that the Mini would need some money spending to get her back to fabulous condition, although she probably will pass the MOT with no work at the end of the month. In addition the Chim needs a service, which will get done anyway if I decide to sell (probably for around 5kish). I could probably get £1500 to £2k for the mini as she is now (limited edition, 50th anniversary and all that)

I need a daily driver (currently the Mini) and not having a sports car for the weekend would be positively bad for my health.

So do I spend the cash on doing up the Mini and looking after the Chim or do I consolidate the outgoings (sell the Mini and the Chim and put the 'doing up' cash into the fund) potentially £7-11k and get one of these?

Haven't driven one but they must be fairly robust and reliable if Minimax still has his wink and are they going to give me the same grin factor as the Chim and the Mini do put together

I just don't know weeping

It make sense to me, ditch the Mini and the Chim, get an Elise as a full time car for daily drive and weekend fun too. Just the one set of insurance, tax, MOTs' and service/maintenance/repair schedules etc. The Elise does appear to age well too.

mine has been totally reliable, even with the (ab)use i've given it... I can't think that i'll ever sell it now, it's coming up to 3 years! eek

the inner sill gets a bit annoying to clamber over in time, but it's easy to drive and economical, fast, and.... enormous fun biggrin

If you are going to buy an Elise, now is the time to do it, while you're young and fit enough to get in and out of it.

You know I love minis (I've had four), but once they start to go then they will EAT money !

Realistically even if you plough in the money it will still only be a 90s equinox ....

The only certianty with you two is that whatever you choose will break ...

Hi Trace,

The Elise S1 is great little car as long as you don't want to carry anything and you can get in and out without looking like an idiot (I can't!). Oh and watch your coolent level as they can blow head gaskets.

You see lots of girls driving them!...there, that should put you off!!

Keep the Chim...its engine is over twice the size and sounds ten times as good and you can carry stuff!!
