Good garage for setting up suspention?
Discussion
Right. Who knows a good garage some place not too far from Wolves who can set up my MX5 ride height. The place that fitted my coil overs told me they had set it up as suggested. I have since worked out they simply just bolted them on the car...
Having had a bash at moving the washer up the screw thread I've discovered I'm far from strong enough to even turn it slightly. It looks like 2 parts and I cant even back one away from the other.
So I need a place which can do the job, and not scratch their heads looking at it going "never done this mate"....

Sometimes the collar has a grub screw to stop it from turning when the car is in use. Has your's got one around the back where you can't see it? Also if you didn't realise the car will probably need to be jacked up to be able to spin the collar, and you should really put some weight on the drivers seat so that the car is level when your in it.

A grub screw. I didn't see anything when they were in the box or earlier when I was having a fight with it. Car was jacked up though if for no other reason than the wheel has to come off to allow access.Topgear automotive look like a reasonable place to take it. Not in the same class as their usual fare! But I presume they have seen the odd set of Gaz shocks on TVRs.
Sometimes the adjustable seat has nothing to lock it, sometimes it has a grub screw, sometimes it has a locking ring underneath it. It sounds as if you have the latter. You need to screw the two rings apart. This will be hard since they are screwed together tightly and will also be trying to corrode to each other and to the damper. You will probably find the rings have notches and are designed to be adjusted with a 'C' spanner. If they are not too tight and not badly corroded you may be able to knock the lower one loose with a drift on the side of the notch, but if they're tight you'll damage things before they move like that. A 'C' spanner is the right tool for the job.

Aye. I have the C spanner. Just the one mind. Thats what i was trying to use to screw the bottom 1/2 down away from the top. No joy though. I need to poke around see if I can find a 2nd C spanner in the boxes.Gassing Station | Midlands | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
