Warwickshire Fire Service - Support your local Station!
Discussion
A 12 week consultation starts today, according to BBC news, I can't find it on the BBC but do have the details from Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service website
Consultation closes on Tuesday 8th December.
The Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are plotting to close 7 of the Retained Stations :-
Alcester
Bidford
Brinklow
Fenny Compton
Henley in Arden
Kenilworth
Polesworth
Shipston on Stour
Southam
Studley
Warwick
Wellesbourne
The 7 they plan to close are out of these :-
Alcester
Bedworth
Bidford
Brinklow
Fenny Compton
Kenilworth
Studley
Warwick
They say this is down to 'modernisation', but how does reducing the fire crews by 7 sites modernise the four Wholetime Stations at
Leamington Spa
Nuneaton
Rugby
Stratford upon Avon
How will this improve the service? Will a Crew coming from Leamington Spa really be quicker to an incident in Kenilworth than the Retained Crews getting to the Kenilworth Station & getting to the incident? Or Stratford to Alcester or Fenny Comptom?

The Retained Crews have to go through exactly the same training as the full time Crews.
Please complete the survey and do your best to help save your local Fire Station.

Nobody thought of where the extra crews/kit/tenders will be put ? None of the above stations are big enough ( or expandable enough) to house it .

It's all down to money -the money the Warks Councillors wasted on changing the limits not so long ago .Think that the last time it was tried ,in Nuneaton and Bedworth someone asked how an appliance would get to the other side of Bedworth, from Nuneaton on a Saturday afternoon ( and that's if no idiots are stopped queuing for Asda (in the barstewarded road system called a ring road ) outside the fire station .
That's when they thought about building a new station midway between the two towns - and gave up when the cost came up .
Apart from taking the survey - look on the Warks county council site -find your County councillor and bend their ear .
Edit to add - I'll certainly be completing the survey ,but first I'll be asking my county councillor for advice -I'd suggest that a LOT of the questions are LOADED to get the answer they want .(Just like the SCP surveys are )

Thanks guys
The Kenilworth MP is already on the case
SO is the Nuneaton Tribune(www.nuneatontribune.net) ( and probably the other versions of it accross Warks -from memory it's the free version of the Telegraph).Big article in it this weekend ,and a template letter (probably could be modified for other areas ) to send in to the consultation .The Kenilworth MP is already on the case

Copy of the one for Nuneaton follows ,in case it's any use .

Dear Sir,
I write in response to the consultation on Fire Services across Warwickshire, with particular reference to cover in Nuneaton and Bedworth.
I totally oppose any cuts to the town’s fire service.
Our crews risk their lives every day to keep us safe.
I believe any cuts in crew numbers would put the lives of fire-fighters at risk, as well as those of people in the community.
I would urge you not to reduce the numbers of crew members now stationed at Nuneaton and Bedworth and also not to merge the two stations.
Yours sincerely,
etc etc "
What really concerns me ( and probably a lot of those who live in older areas) is that at present to attend a fire in my street ,the station send two appliances ,each entering the street from opposite ends - reason --street is narrow and a lot of idiots park with no thought for emergency services .We have campaigned locally for parking provision ,and dropped kerbs ( ho ho - that means WCC spending money ) to alleviate the problem .Police response was to suggest double yellows down one side
.Reduce the crew strength and possibly only one appliance would be sent .How long before a tragedy occurs -and all to save some cash ,to replace that spent on the futile exercise of erecting speed limit signs for folk to ignore ( as let's face it the SCP is a money making, non safety farce and Warks Traffic is well under strength )
