The East Mids Region on the TVR Car Club is currently looking for a new venue for it's monthly meetings and I thought I'd see if anyone on here had some good suggestions.

We hold our meetings on Sundays (12 to 3pm) which can be an issue for many pubs as it's often their busiests day. We're looking for:

1. Big flat carpark (not grass) capable of accommodating up to 40 TVRs on top of normal punters' cars.

2. Fairly central to the East Mids - between Nottingham and Leicester is ideal.

3. A venue that is happy with car meets

4. Good food at a reasonable price if people want it.

We currently have the following on our list to look at:

1. The Rutland Arms (The Dirty Duck), Woolsthorpe Wharf
2. The Six Hills Hotel, Fosseway A46
3. The Unicorn Inn, Gunthorpe
4. Belvoir Hotel, Whatton
5. Clock Warehouse, Shardlow, Derbys
6. Kings Arms, Hathern, Leics

Thanks in advance for any help and further suggestions thumbup

Tony

Gunthorpe Bridge too far out?
A couple of pubs with massive car parking there.

The Unicorn at Gunthorpe is already No.3 on my list above. Thanks any way!

The Clock at Shardlow is used by the MX-5 owners and Westfield owners. It has 2 large car parks, serves good food, good hospitality, two bars and a skittle alley.

Hmmm, sounds like a good excuse for a run out to the pub so you can post the details hehe

Might try that one myself!

Are they still charging to use the car park by the river?

Took 12 Westfield owners down last month on a Thursday night. We didnt pay to use the pub car park and certainly didnt see any signs to say we should.

I'm not sure if they still charge all the time for the car park in front of the Unicorn but it's always full on Sundays. I was thinking of the very big car park behind the pub.

That's the one I was thinking off.
Back in 2001 (IIRC) there was a big Midlands meet of Scoobynet (called The Big One) and about 80 - 90 odd cars turned up.
Plenty of room.

Have you thought about approaching Castle Donnington Race Circuit?
They obviously have loads of parking, you'd just need to know when the other events / car boot sales etc were on.

I don't know why there isn't something like the Goodwood Breakfast Club already going on there.

The carpark at the Unicorn at Gunthorpe is very busy in the summer and you have to pay. The Belvoir inn has a large carpark and is never full.
Dirty Duck at Woolsthope can get busy and there is a kids playground at the back.
The Gregory at Halaxton on the Melton road has a large car park.

There's a good idea. Perhaps a Sunday morning Donnington Breakfast Club. Would we get suffucient numbers? Their is a cafe and the museum is worth a tour, loads of parking. Only downside, Sunday market and large Sunday track/shows.

The museaum is brilliant, much better than I expected. I'd be up for a meet at Donington, some nice roads around there too.

Well you don't have to worry about the track issues at the moment, it's not exactly busy up there. wink
Another plus is the driving sims in the entrance to the museum, we could see if anyone can beat Gillets time around the new course.
