There is a consultation, with the view of introducing these in the near future.
There is a contact email address on the highways website to have your say.

The decision has already been made, and they have already spent £3m on the infrastructure for them. Just the boxes needing to be plugged in now.

I used to love top speed runs down the hill northbound from 27 to 28 lol.

They do work at keeping traffic moving though.

I drive the M42 through the active traffic management area everyday. It is annoying at times when it changes speeds continuously BUT it generally flows much much better than it used to.

yeh i use the M42 alot with work and they are very annoying when they go from 60 to 40 back up to 60 but they do seem to keep the traffic flowing at a steady rate,

do they keep working when theres no speed displayed on the screens, as in will the catch you if you stray above 70mph??

They (like all other motorway cameras I believe - currently) are only approved when the reduced limit is in force.

Does anyone know if they will still be the SPECS or if they will be fixed Photo style ones from the gantrys. I would have assumed the SPECS but i have noticed what look like Fixed Photo style cameras markings painted onto the road. - The type that allow them to measure the speed over a short distance (about 10ft)

I dont go down the M42 a lot but everytime i travel back up to Nottm they seem to be on 50 mph, how can that keep the traffic flowing on a 70 mph road, what are they actually managing, it seems to me, there never appears to be a reason for the reduced limit other than raising revenue.

Fixed gantry - same as the M42.
