Beagles in the Midlands
Discussion
First place I'd check out would be the specialised breed sites - they'll give you a lot of info on what to expect . But don't forget that a Beagle ( from my meetings with owners ) is a hunting dog from breeding -so suspect they'll need lots of exercise .And if you intend to get one - don't forget that ( a lot of) the breeders are in it for profit ( some do it for profit ,but treat the dogs like the pets they wish them to become-now the exception) - but the breed rescue people are in it to give dogs a second chance .My dog is breed rescue -his owners had to go into a home -so I gave a rescue society a donation ,helped a dog in need stay out of kennels .
We've recently (January this year) got a Beagle pup to go with our Leonberger.
without a doubt, one of the most loving and affectionate dogs ever, but and a very big but!
They are buggers to train and if they find a scent, you calling their name is so far down their list of priorities, they can't even see it!!
Ours isn't as bad as many as she's picked up plenty of traits off our 4 y/o Leonberger who are probably the easiest and most loyal dogs to train, but if you have a beagle on their own, Good Luck!!
If you have a nice garden, say goodbye to it now as well!
here's Molly

but luckily, Roxy keeps her on the straight and narrow!

Looks like the bit about rescue went adrift -breed rescue is not like dog rescue -often these dogs loos their owners etc .
Have a look at this first -http://www.beagleadvice.org.uk/rescue_Beagles.htm
If you don't find one here ,then look at breeders ,but these need new homes - and again if you feel the need to get a puppy -REPUTABLE BREEDERS will be mentioned -and advice on where NOT to get one -AND WHY -have a look at the conditions breeding dogs are kept in on puppy farms and then look at Kennel Club breeding regulations.

I think it depends on you to a large extent
we had a beagle for fourteen years and he would never go more than a hundred yards from whichever one of us was walking him.
We had the advantage of Sutton Park on our doorstep (ish)
but very rarely had to walk him on his lead, never in the park and rarely outside on pavement walks.
But we did condition him with loads of love and hugs before he ever got off the lead and it made him want to do all his running back towards us for love
Beagles have bigger bellies than their bodies, every beagle in the world wants prizes just for being there
you need to be tough controlling their snack instinct
But they are also very loving dogs
Our Jack seemed to be permanantly moulting though
Sixteen years later I still occasionally find a white beagle hair drifted away some out of the way place
still miss the little guy too
