Anyone got a good recommendation for the above please?
We are with David Lloyd at present (West Bridgford) but not very happy with it.
Ideally the place will have a pool and do childrens swimming lessons. But that is not essential. If absolutely necessary I will pack the family off to a different club and join a place on my own.
We DO want good value. That does not mean cheap but if we are paying top money we expect good facilities.
We use the gym (cardio, free weights and machines) and pool. We don't need racket sports.
I have been a member at David Lloyd, Virgin (when it was Holmes Place) and have looked at Roko (it didn't seem great at the time) and DW (which is a contender at present).
Any thoughts guys please?
Well, I use Cotgrave LC for the gym, kids swimming lessons.
Costs me £25 pm and for that I get free raquet sports, unlimited gym time, all other exercise classes ( spin, circuits, swimming etc).
The good thing about it is I can use any Rushcliffe Borough LC's including the Arena.
Also, if you're really really desperate you can get 2 kids in for free at Run Riot.
As I say though, you have to be desperate to go there
All the gyms have been modernised with new equipment and you can even have the instructors do a one on one exercise regime with you.
Very good VFM.

having worked for a hair salon in both david lloyds, i agree they arent as good as people make out. IMO you cant go wrong with DW at netherfield/colwick! nice staff and good selection of eqipt and not too busy.

[snobby b'stard] The problem I see is that it is cheap and adjacent to Netherfield. So there will be a lot of badly spelled tattoos and chavs.Matt
Correct me if I am wrong. [/snobby b'stard]

people who live in netherfield normally cant afford or not go due to being spotted and loosing benefits

but you also have a lot of "snobby's" from Lowdham, Burton Joyce, Stoke Bardolph and Bulcote.
On a serious note, ive been in there a few times and there werent any chavs there

I'd second Virgin. It's fairly good value and has a decent feel about it. Looked at Dave Lloyd but too pricey for me. Nuffield looked nice but location was a bit inconvenient for me and travel patterns (was in Mapperley Park, just moved to Arnold/Bestwood). I'd say Virgin probably has it. Can I ask why you don't like David Lloyd? No need to answer if you feel it's inappropriate.

We don't like David Lloyd West Bridgford because the facility is becoming very tired. The gym equipment, especially the cardio machines, are quite dated and in poor condition. For example there are only two or three cross trainers that don't clank or have bits missing. They are all quite grubby too. The management seems complacent and despite many people drawing their attention to problems nothing very much changes. They think (correctly to some degree) that they have a captive audience because so few other places take children.
Despite the shortcomings the monthly membership cots me £150 for me, my wife and two children (ages 2&4) which is extremely poor value and this will increase as the children grow older.

That sounds to me like a really bad deal. I can't believe they're getting away with it. I think Virgin have a creche and facilities to accomodate children, but I'm not entirely sure (as I'm married but feel too young for kids just yet The management seems complacent and despite many people drawing their attention to problems nothing very much changes. You're a nobody at Grosvenor school if your kids don't have their parties at David Lloyds.
And because of this, DL can rest on it's laurels.
Plumtree school is the same I think. And because of this, DL can rest on it's laurels.
i know several 'Yummies' with kids there.

I was a member for 6 months of JJB in Netherfield when it first opened. Nice gym, but no good imho for kids - bit boring in fact. Don't fancy parking a nice car in that car park either Manks.
I moved from David Lloyd to join JJB, but after a 2 year break, have now moved back to DL. Yes i agree it is in need of investment as regards to the cardio equipment - but it does the job. The main thing that chaps my arse, is the fact that hardly any of the audio controls work on the machines
Does make you wonder if DL are in trouble
