Guys (n gals)
planning a trip that will take in the Peaks. Will be staying near Holmfirth and will need to head south to arrive at Coventry the same day. Would be grateful for any tips/advice of roads to drive or avoid, as well as any landmarks/places of interest that we ought to detour for.
I'm sure there are some belting roads, and therefore it'd be a shame to miss them after just picking a route at random using Google Maps!!!!

many thx
Mark

A6024 From Holmfirth to the Woodhead Pass.
B6105 From Woodhead Pass to Glossop
A624/A6 to Buxton
A53 from Buxton to Leek (Alternatively take the A54 from Buxton and then the A523 to Leek)
A520 from Leek to Stone then the M6

thx Plastic - you dont rate these then? a57, 6187, 5056?
Basically trying to maximize scenery + decent roads - we all drive 7's so want to avoid m/ways where possible in favour of twistys.....

I would try:
A6024 to Woodhead Pass
B6105 to Glossop
A624 Hayfield
A6015 to A6
A6 to A5004
A5004 to Buxton (great road, worth the detour)
A515 through Ashbourne, down to Lichfield
A51 then A5206 to A38
A38 then A446 down to A45
A45 to Coventry

This route avoids the motorways around Birmingham. Try to detour for the A5004 if you can, it is the old A6 so is usually quiet with some good twisties. The Snake Pass is OK, but on a Sunday morning, otherwise you'll get frustrated behind the 40mph brigade or a truck.

Ok well if you want a really scenic longer route then:

A6024 From Holmfirth to the Woodhead Pass.
B6105 From Woodhead Pass to Glossop
A624 To Chapel-En-Le-Firth
A6187/B8601 to Winatts pass.
A6187 to Brough
B6409 to BlackWell
A5270 to A515
A515 to A5012 (Via Gellia)
B5036/B5023 to A517
A517 to A515

In theory you could do a route doing the Isle Of Skye, Woodhead Pass, Snake Pass, Wynatts Pass and the Cat And Fiddle. But they all get busy in the day and are best driven early on a weekend morning.
