East Midlands Airport Rapid Drop-Off

Has anyone else had the misfortune of using this shocking service? Its been around for a few months but I haven't been there for ages. It costs £1 to drop someone off now. For your £1, you get to use the drop off zone, and then queue up to pay for the priviledge.
You are only allowed 10 minutes, and if you stay over that the lovely ANPR system sends you a nice ticket for £100 in the post.
When we went on Sunday, they had shut off one side of it, which meant that there was a huge line and it was grid locked. There was only one barrier operating and even that had a man taking peoples money and feeding it into the machine.
Absolutely useless.

I didn't read that sign they have up there, therefore, no contract was agreed with the land owner. God I love the legal system sometimes.

Then the bandits from Manchester Airport bought it...
Then it dropped to 20 minutes...
Then it dropped to 10 minutes...
Now there are no free minutes...and you pay £1 to drop off.
Yes, the single barrier is going to cause some trouble.
When they allowed 10 minutes free in the original format, with at least 6 barriers spread along the length of the perimeter, I once presented myself at the exit three minutes after entry. A long queue to the barrier, with someone stuck there for some reason, and the next one kaput, I went over 10 minutes by the time I made it to another barrier. A heated discussion ensued on the intercom and the muppets finally released me when I told them how much it would cost them if I missed a meeting. The charge was only £2, but I wasn't paying as a matter of principle, as they were incapable of letting me out after 3 minutes.
Bunch of idiots in charge.
I thought it only rose to £2 if you go over 10 minutes..? No..?

EMA used to be a great place to travel from - but that was when flying was fun.
I used the bus from Donington village when I flew out in the summer. Not incredibly cheap but less than asking someone to drop me off and pay the enforced drop off fee.
EMA has a new MD. The previous one, presumably on the basis of her 'success' at EMA, was promoted within the Manchester Airports Group.
My feeling is that MAG is near the head of the queue with the Banks, Insurance companies and all the Utilities as clear favourites in the 'rip off of the decade' competition. At some point the masses will recognise this and may take their revenge. I really hope I am still around to see it.

You have the runway on your right, then the big Royal Mail area on your right.
Speed trap hides on the opposite side of the road, about half way along, in an access drive to the industrial units on your left.
Here it is, looking in the opposite direction, airport behind camera. Van with plod and hand held device is in he distance, on the right.

I've only seen him once, when that photo was taken, late summer a couple of years ago, Sunday afternoon, 18.00 hours-ish.
What the hell he was doing there is beyond me. Few workers, no traffic, very quiet.
I'm told the bikers use it as a rat run when there's a meeting on next door, but there was no event that day.
To avoid paying the drop off fee of £1.00. As you enter the main airport entrance, turn left at the next roundabout where the car park exit is, keep going straight on a little further down the road is another island by Ryan Air check in. I drop people off there, round the island and out for free...
Only problem its double yellows, but for a few seconds it is worth the risk.
