A5 - Anyone get stuck today?
Discussion
Seeing as the weather had prevented use of my Fiat Coupe (actually, it had prevented me even getting into it!) I borrowed my son's Punto 1.2
I realised something was amiss when I turned onto the A5 at Lichfield, headed for Tamworth - everything was crawling along at 5mph in the nearside lane, so I just trundled into the deserted outside lane and got plenty of grip from 175-section tyres and fresh snow
Got the the bottom of Hints hill and all became obvious - almost everything was stuck on the hill - trucks everywhere and cars aplenty too. Mostly new German stuff surprisingly.
However, the Punto was simply brilliant - did a bit of slalom around the stranded stuff and just waltzed to the top - even beat a Cayenne Turbo
TBH, most of the cars that were going nowhere had only themselves to blame - 1st gear and 5,000rpm doesn't usually help forward motion very much - this country's drivers are mostly crap as soon as it gets just a tiny bit slippery (I can forgive trucks, especially the big rigs - there's no way that 2WD on a tractor unit is going to shift a 30 tonne trailer once its stopped)
