Looking for a good quality (luxury) hotel in Cheltenham with a nice bar to use as a base for a Cotswold tour. Looking to pay up to £200 per night. Swimming pool would be nice but not necessary.

Any suggestions?

If you don't mind being out of town a bit, Cowley Manor is exceptional.

The two in town that spring to mind are the Hotel Du Vin, and the new Montpellier Chapter. The Chapter is a huge refurb of the old Kandinsky and has been open 6 weeks or so; lots of bluster and looks very nice but I've not heard anybody say it's conclusively better than Du Vin, certainly as far as dining is concerned.

The Queen's might be worth a look but it's starting to feel its age now and I've not seen any major refurb work going on there in the last 10 years.

Your need for a bar rules out Beaumont House.

"The Hotel" formerly Hotel on The Park is a good small hotel, as is the Town House Hotel.

Depending on when you're going, Elenborough Park might be finished by then, another huge refurb, this time of the old DeLaBere.

Having said that, it turns out Cowley Manor is spectacularly expensive.

Their website said:
Invite someone to come away with you to Cowley Manor with our beautifully wrapped invitation and Cowley Manor CD at £195. See the Special Offers section of our website.
Yes, £195 to send out an invite and a CD is a little dear, I dread to think what their room rates are like!

Actually looking on Google I think Hotel du Vin may be the ticket!

Chapter has underground parking if that's a consideration, not sure on DuVin. About 400 yards apart from each other in a nice area though so security isn't a huge problem.

Du Vin is nice but parking is a challenge. Worth looking to see if Kandinski has re-opened after its 2 year refurb.

Hotel on the Park looks nice but has poor reviews.

Personally I always struggle to find particularly nice hotels in Cheltenham and end up sending relatives to the Dormy House near Broadway (or the rich ones to Buckland Manor)but then you dont have a Town as a base.

It has, it's the Montpellier Chapter now.

I saw a review of it in the Telegraph the other day

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/hotels/ukhotels/...

ETA just realised I stayed there in its former guise once and quite liked the place. The same with the Queens although as has been said, it was showing its age and that was 5 years ago. Both are in lovely locations though.

I found a good website that offers a few different things, when I stayed in Cheltenham I used http://www.roomsbooked.com/ and stayed in their apartments.
