av. speed cameras m4 j18-19
Discussion
I think these are a hangover from the roadworks earlier this year, there is another set on the M5 where the roadworks were recently - roadworks have all gone but the scamera's are still there. I don't believe its possible to issue a fpn from a speed camera unless there are the scamera warning signs.
At least I hope they are a hangover from the roadworks as I have just passed them....................

I am commuting from Reading-ish to Torquay and back every week, I am doing circa 200 miles each way which up until a couple of weeks ago had about 40 miles of roadworks - was just getting used to a decent run there and back and you lot ruin my weekend by letting me know that there is more to come.......

I'm confused by the introduction of these concrete walls as barriers. Are they supposed to be safer?
Apparently, yes.Perceived wisdom appears to be that these things are never hit head on at speed - there is always a degree of angle involved.
Therefore, so peceived wisdom goes, there is no chance of a vehicle penetrating the concrete barrier (as there is with the metal or wire ones) and fouling the opposite carriageway.

Yeah, the M4 ones are still not working.
Someone mentioned the M5 above, so thought I'd mention it.
Between 17 and 16 on the M5 there are average speed cameras, only on the north bound side.
I only use the M5 to get on to the M4, so there might be more on the M5, but I just noticed those on the way in to work this morning.

Went past on friday night, about midnight. They had cones out reducing it to one lane and signes for the cameras not in use were gone. Dont know if the cones were temporary over night, or if thats how they're staying. Will make it a right pain to commute if it stays like that.
It's not down to one lane, but it's a slow old drag from 18-19 at the moment. miniman said:
