What's A354 Dorchester to Weymouth road like currently?

I know all about the roadworks there presently, but their effect on the old road seems to vary. Last spring was bloody awful driving in to Weymouth that way as there were temp traffic lights on the roundabout north of Morrisons.

If I'm on my own I go the 'secret way' in but am being driven in by parents-in-law on Saturday from Sherborne who 'don't do narrow roads'.

Would it be less painful to just go round via Winterborne Abbas & Portesham?

Traffic has been flowing fine the last month or so at weekends.

Lots of cones up at the A35 roundabout at Dorch the other day when I passed through. Will be driving into Weymouth myself on Weds next week for a meeting, so hoping it's not too bad.
