Can anyone recommend a keenly priced supplier of turf in the Bournemouth / Dorset area? We require 130 square meters. Also, is there any particular type we should use, it will just be to resurface our garden? The garden is currently covered in a mixture of concrete and patio slabs - so I'm sure we will need some top soil too?

We also need someone to lay the turf if anyone has any recommendations!

Thank you.

If you've got kids go for a hardier type of grass, ask at point of sale.

If time/work isnt an issue lay the turf yourself, it really is very easy! Take a look here:-

However I wouldnt suggest you but from them, cheaper will be found.

There is a Google Ad below this thread which takes you to an online calculator.
They are in Lancashire so you pay heavily for the transport but they have options for different turf so may be a start point to understand the differences and prices.

Also may be worth getting a landscape gardener to look at the job and leave him/her to source the turf.
The New Vista is one I know of because he lives next door but have no idea how his prices compare.

I have just bought from the eco centre on chapel lane, Hurn.

Apparently they dont "sell to the pubic" anymore, but he was happy to sell me one roll for patching !?

Although i have just been reliably informed that there is a place on the Ferndown Industrial Estate that sells cheaper.

Just on the left after the second set of traffic lights as you enter from Wimborne Road side.

Cant remember the name (Stones?) though.

I used Rolawn Medallion last year and it was good enough.

I am suffering this year from the subsurface being too compacted so watch out for that!

Too compact? What does this cause and how can you avoid it?

Basically its when the mud underneath the soil is too hard - this emans water and the roots find it tough to go lower down. This means the grass wont gorw as nice.

It is either caused by
a) the ehat mading the soil rock hard
b) when I was preparing the surface I compacted it too hard myself.

I think the heat is a likely story TBH but certainly do go crazy on compaction before putting the turf down.

I am having to aerate this year (putting holes into the mud to let water go in).

Also make sure you water like mad for the first couple of weeks if putting down on a hot day.

Mine was struggling from the first day due to the intese heat last year.
