OK, a weird one.... just got a speed notice through from 9am last Saturday morning. It says I was doing 38mph on the Avenue (A33). Now I drove up there at that time no complaints, remember being stopped at the lights by the Landy dealer. Drove up slow as car was going for a booked in MOT (the old one had expired whilst I've been away for 8 months, but nothing illegal about that).

The thing is it doesn't say where on the Avenue and it's a 40 limit most of the way hence the speed I was going. It's not been changed to 30 whilst I've been out the country has it??

I 'think' it is 30 right up to the juction where you would turn right to the University. If not that far then close to the Cow Herds. So if you went by the Landie dealer you were in a 30 for quite a long way!
I got spotted by a Talivan on the big one way section south of the Landie dealer going south. I opted for the Naughty Boy Course.

ETA- I think the physical plate has to be a certain size too these days!

Good luck

The speed limit changes to 30 mph just after the cowherds before the pedestrian crossing.
I was nabbed after the stag gates a couple of years ago.
The police hide in the tree's wearing their dayglo jackets so be warned !!!!

I have been had on the avenue aswell. Its a 40 up to the roundabout where the cars dealers are then its a 30. The copper normally stands by the pedestrian crossing with his motorbike behind the tree and stands between the tree and the post so he is hard to notice! curseevil

Or if its further up in the forty they hide the car up the road opposite the cowherds pub and stand on the corner with the gun. (thats where i got done)

What is the penalty for the number plate 'offence'? It is correctly spaced and with the correct size letters (unlike many of our cars) so they really are taking the mickey inmo mad

I don't think it is quite up to spec, the only bit I can see them having issue with is the height, there doesn't look to be enough room above and below the letters. The rest of the plate looks perfectly legal, correct font, correctly spaced and enough room on either end.

Yup found out the problem, it's 7mm too short top to bottom that's it, been on there ages but fair cop I guess by the letter of the law. Got to give them credit, good spot from a Scamera photo!

Oh well, looking forward to my course and will grin and bare the £60 for the number plate error...

Becareful with the plate. (Any plate!!) My understanding is you get 3-strikes and they can withdraw the plate. No matter how much it has cost. If you do not display according to the letter and you get a series of notices you may well loose it.

That was the first time in 18 years of owning the plate, I honestly (ducking as everyone will call my a c*ck for not knowing) that the plate on there that has been used for many year on numerous cars wasn't legal, correct numbes, spacing etc, just 7mm too short top to bottom. Been pulled over for a word by police at least three times with that plate on and never a word has been said. Just unlucky but will get one 7mm taller now just to be safe.
