I've just managed to drop my Omega Seamaster on the bathroom floor and it's now not working! Is there anywhere locally that would be able to take a look, or is it a case of sending off to Omega and being shafted by their service team?

Mark.

Depends where local is? I use Perfect Timing I think they are called, in Chichester, South Street.

Oh yeah, forgot that bit! I'm in Dorset.

Do the dealers in Chichester repair on site, or do they send them off?

It needs to go to a repairer who can re-seal the watch at pressure I think, they have some kind of pressurised chamber for when they put the back, back on the watch. I made the mistake of taking an Omega watch of mine to a watch shop for a repair, all seemed good with the watch until I went swimming and it leaked. The more upmarket jewellers won't touch them, they will have them sent off to the manufacturer.

Eddie YHM.

Peter I've heard of people have that problem in the past, that's why I'm keen to make sure I get it repaired properly. It's a right pain the ass to be honest, I'm off away for the weekend and don't have another watch to wear and I feel a little naked with nothing on my wrist.

Very apt this as I have an old ladies Omega seamaster that needs restoration.
I know the Omega service centre is in Millbrook, Southampton I believe but Eddie wouldn't mind if you can give me an idea of costs etc?

I could do with the hands putting back on my Seamaster after i dropped it!
I had it serviced previously by Omega in Eastleigh and took about 4 weeks, then dropped it not long after when i had moved to the states, they did say they would fix it under the warranty if i could get it to them! and as for the Omega USA service center that place is a joke!

Hi again guys.

My watch guy is back from his hols now (on monday) so we are free again to crack on with the watches. For all those who are wondering about waterproofing etc, yes he can. He is fully Rolex, Omega, Tag, Longines etc certified and only uses genuine parts. Damned sight quicker than the head offices too. A recent estimate from Rolex was 6 to 9 months for a service. My guy will do it in a week or two.

PM me with your needs.

Do you have facilities to pressure test the watch after repair?

I believe this is the only way to be sure its sealed so i can only assume that he pressure tests the watches after assembly as per Omega / Rolex / Tag etc guide lines. I can find out for you tomorrow. Im not a watchmaker myself, i am a goldsmith but i'll find out.

Ok, cool. My watch is quite slow, I am reluctant to send it off for 12 weeks, so have been putting up with it. Would be great if I could get it altered with a reasonably fast turnaround. But the thing that worries me is the water proofing.

To answer the question: I've just checked and yes all watches are pressure tested in accordance with manufacturers specs.
