Seems to me, during the night closures, they are either jetwashing the entire surface or are they sanding the top few milimetres off?

They have also done the M271 as well.

Is this going to happen nationwide does anyone know?

I thought the M271 felt different. The M27 end was comprehensively ruined, but seems a little better, and appears to have changed to a lighter shade. Beyond that I've no idea.

It is annoying after washing your car, to then go to work in the morning only to be covered in crap, when i first went through it i thought the gritters had been out.

Wonder if its to try to cut down road noise as once upon a time they were going to tarmac that section I thought?

Drove that bit first time for a couple of weeks, must say the lack on lane markings as you approach j5 on the westbound seems avlittle dangerous IMHO. An accident waiting to happen!

I think.....

A few years ago, there was some kind of construction job done by the council where they saved a few million by finishing early and using different suppliers. The councillor said at the time that he would use the saved money to resurface the M27 from the M271 through to Hedge End with the low sound tarmac.

I've heard that's what's going on, but they're doing it bit by bit.

This!,
Caught me yesterday coming home from work, No road markings to tell me where the exit was, stuck behind a lorry, and thus struggled to judge the exit IMO accident waiting to happen.

Mmmm, some basic good driving standards should see you through this life threatening lack of markings scenario.....

It was kinda hard to explain but it was very dangerous as where the road was laid the 3 carragways all seemed to turn in suddenly, without the road markings it was easy to get drawn into the inside lanes.

You can see this below, (Bear in mind they have made the black joints much bigger now.)

The highways agency have tried to cut corners, by skimming 3 to 5mm of the top of the concrete and re jointing the concrete. They had to do something as the skid rating of the M27 had fallen way below what is allowed. However they have always said that they cannot lay tarmac on this section of concrete motorway until it needs maintenance. So they have gone back on their word and done this maintenance 'on the cheap' they also did not put it under the heading of projects on the web site, instead hid it under the 'press releases'. Not even the local council knew about it until it had started.
