I know we have the only Green council in the country, but £1.70 a half hour £3.20 an hour and £6.00 for two hours is outrageous but most spaces, car parks are full at the weekend so now it's been leaked they are to go up more.

It will deter shoppers. I know this for a fact as I am one of them. I live in Worthing and had the choice of going to either Brighton or Chichester to visit a Paperchase store (something my mother wanted).

Brighton's closer but I decided to go to Chichester instead. Not only is Chichester a much more interesting place, I was able to park close to where I needed to be for about £1. From experience getting into, around and out of Brighton, it was also easier getting into and out of Chi, and Chi isn't exactly renowned for being car-friendly since they introduced all their silly one-way systems.. Still a million times better than Brighton though.

The only time I go to Brighton now is when I have to for work and I can expense back the parking costs. I've paid out £25 a day in parking costs when working in Brighton for the whole day. Frankly it's taking the piss.

I always just park in Churchill Square's car park for the day...About as cheap as you can get in Brighton. Especially as the NCP's around there are "W.London rates". The alternative if you fancy a bit of a walk is park up at the Marina & walk!

Isn't Worthing more expensive than Brighton though? And are Brighton not doing 1/2 price Xmas shopping parking?

I haven't been into Worthing town centre in years. There's nothing worth going there for now.

I've currently been in Brighton for a few weeks and already I've received a parking fine because my ticket 'wasn't displayed correctly' I looked at the time and I'd received the parking fine less than 10 minutes after leaving my car even though it was a Sunday. They must have pounced on it like a load of
vultures.

As per my other thread I love Brighton but I absolutely detest this from what I've seen car hating green council that is Brighton and Hove council.

I had a look at what they make per year in charges and fines and it is simply staggering.

All that will happen here is people will vote with their feet and bugger off and shop elsewhere. This has already happened in my home town for various reasons one being the draconian car policy, they simply go to The Trafford Centre where they have better shops and parking is free. As a result my home town is a ghost town.

Take a look at this list of councillors and see if you can guess the tree hugging lefty car hating councillors without reading the text underneath. I bet you can.

http://present.brighton-hove.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex....

This shower of st won't be happy until Brighton is a car free city but they won't do this just yet because they realise how much Brighton and Hove benefit from charges and fines implemented by power hungry traffic wardens.

Sorry for the rant but having never had a parking ticket ever and then getting one inside of a week of coming here it makes you realise how greedy and comrpletely out of touch Brighton and Hove council is.

You just want the prospect of people calling you "Mr.Kitcat" & then having "Mini Kitcats", & then should you have an offspring courtesy of the aforementioned fair maiden, who just happens to be a bit more rounded you can then have the proud honour of calling him "Kitcat chunky!"

...I'd marry her too to be honest just to be able to do all of the above.

I'd like to see if she's a 'four-finger' kitkat.

Too far?

We always used to go to Brighton for a Sunday out since about the mid 80's over this time the Lanes has just become a place to eat and very few shops where you could pick up a 'treasure' for a reasonable price. I have refused to go to Brighton ever again as mentioned there is a regime of parking gestapo operating in Brighton and the Council obviously loves to screw visitors by sending this lot out. If ever the time comes which unfortunately I doubt when someone with a bit of foresight runs the place perhaps people like me and my family will come back but I doubt it.

Out of curiosity, where do you now go instead of Brighton to replace the void? I love finding little treasures in those independantly owned shops so always keen to hear about a new place to go!

My God I'd knob that.

Erm Parking, Brighton, yeah. A mate of mine hadn't quite finished his MK1 Mini Cooper S but still wanted to go down to Madiera drive for the end of the London to Brighton Mini run, so he parks in a car park and realises it was cheaper to get a ticket and pay the fine than to pay to park there for the time he wanted to be there. So he did.

Afraid not, with outrageous parking charges virtually everywhere these days I trawl through e-bay rather than go into towns. I feel for small shop owners these days and wonder how they exist as they have to pay the council for being there and have people like me put off by excessive charges for parking and not going in to their shops. Don't know why councils don't just cut out these middle men and come round to your house and rob you blind instead.
