Lots of cones out today going westbound from the M27/M271 junction and what looks like a yellow average speed camera pole on the slip betwen the two roads. Any ideas as to what's going on?

Lane restrictions contra flows due to bridge joint works I understand.

Should be over just before Christmas . There should be free recovery due to hard shoulder running.

It should be monitored by CCTV as hard shoulder running.

Oh well, doesn't look too bad date wise I suppose. Sat in traffic lunchtime and had this vision of the M4 at Newport, road repairs etc never ending and just when you think it's all over, back it comes again.
Thanks for the info.

I get off at that junction, travelling westbound, so hoping that the queues aren't any worse than they usually are in the morning rush hour. Incidentally, cameras are up but not working as yet (Saturday am).

Does anyone know when the road works and average speed cams come into operation on the eastbound carriageway?

I'd ponder that they're not even real anyway. Having driven through a few times this week it seems that they just remove the 'camera not in use' signs...

It makes sense as why bother going to the expense of calibrating them etc when they are an effective deterrent?

Anyone brave enough to test?

Who cares, why would any remotely talented driver choose to speed through the coned section anyway?
It's not at all pleasant being on the other side of the conical fence.

Ah yes, but at the times of day I have been through there has been nobody on the other side of the conical fence...

So far that I've seen, the limit has been off when no works are happening, along with the "camera not in use" signs.

I think thats only on the Eastbound carriageway, the Westbound is definitely a 24hr affair.
