Flogging old coins and watches.

I've been left a handful of old coins, some big chunky ones, mostly 20th century, mostly british. I dont want them, where do I sell them? Southampton or POrtsmouth?

Plus, an old rotary watch, I think about 1930's, looks a bit Art Deco, not in good order and not working? Worthless?

The watch is probably worthless to be honest. I see a lot of vintage Rotary stuff coming in at work and they hold no resale value really due to the base metal construction. If you could post a pic up here i'd be more than happy to take a look though.

The coins however may be of some value to a collector or antique dealer (of which there are many). If you have sequences of date and style or sequences of soveriegnty then you might be in luck. Gold coins hold value normally based on wieght of material but can sometimes have a price bump up if its a rare one. I have a 22ct gold 1958 Expo 1st Prize Coin issued at the Expo 58 Convention awards and the item value is double what its material value is. If you have a rarity like that then please do some research or contact me for a second opinion. Base metal coins are only of any value if they are of an interesting date or design. Sequences are good as too are coins that were minted without dates like a recent batch of 20p pieces.

Yeah the watch isnt worth anything to be honest mate. Why not try your hand at giving it a clean and maybe a light oil of the movement? Whats the worst that can happen? You might actually end up with a watch you can wear.

As for the coins i'd suggest you try your luck with a coin collector / dealer as they will offer the most. Make sure you go in with barrels of confidence as a dealer will go for as low a figure as he thinks you'll fall for. If they are worth a tenner then thats a tenner better in your pocket.
