Hi,

We have a painting in our lounge which I'd like valuing for insurance purposes. How do I go about doing this? Does it cost anything/much? Who would do it? Any recommendations?

It's actually a portrait of my girlfriend when she was a little girl and was painted by her uncle who's an artist. It's an incredible piece but may well have more sentimental value than monetary value, but his other pieces have sold for a lot in the past. I get the impression he doesn't want to sell his artwork, instead he collects it or gives it to family!

Anyway, I'm new to art and paintings, so any advice gratefully received.

Valuations are normally priced on the value of the item itself. Its best to get lots of things valued in a bulk valuation as the final value will be based on the total value rather than per item and per item it works out much, much cheaper. We do valuations at work but not for paintings / pictures im affraid.

Mmm, ok. All his other paintings are in London, could get a few valued together.
