A23 - Handcross Hill Average Speed Cameras
Discussion
Hi guys,
Anybody else commute down the A23 / Handcross Hill?
I use it every day and it has been great fun (not) with the 2 average cameras. I've not been on the road for a couple of days, but coming back up northbound today I noticed (rather late) a third average camera had been added before the 3 lanes turn in to 2. And driving up I noticed a third one on the southbound before the services too.
Now, I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid - but how long have these third cameras been up, as up until then I fear I may have left it a little late to get down to 40!
Cheers,
Dave

Well Tuesday may not be too bad - I hope they're still in the process of activating them!
Thankfully had Wednesday away, so Tuesday night and Thursday morning are the ones I need to look out for in the post! :S
Does anybody know how they work out their average if there's 3 cameras?
Assuming A => B => C
Is the average calculated between A and C? or are the two averages calculated? i.e. A=>B then separately B=>C ?

Yes, they appeared Tuesday or Wednesday morning. I hope! That's the first time I spotted them anyway.
Despite the annoyance of having them, the originals were too far after the 40 limit started, everyone carried on doing 70 and only got down to 40 once they got to the camera. I'd have gone for making the 40 start a lot later rather than putting up more cameras, but there you go.
One interesting peculiarity is southbound when you come off into the petrol station at the top of the hill, the limit goes from 40 to NSL at the end of the sliproad (about the point you have dropped to 20 to tootle up to the pumps) and then from NSL to 40 at the start of the exit sliproad (where you're unlikely to have got above 20 again!)
