Fishing at Newhaven?

I used to go mackerel fishing off the pier arm at Newhaven as a kid, just wondering if you can still do it from the arm or the car park on the fort side? - It's been about 15 years since I've been there so no doubt it's changed.

Thinking of heading down to the coast on tuesday with a mate for a days mackerel hunting, any suggestions if Newhaven isnt any good?

The arm has been closed for a few years no for safety reasons.
