Just remembered there's a half decent tapas bar in the centre. Think it was Oxford Street.
Edit: Yep, Ox. St. http://www.laesquinatapas-restaurant.co.uk/menus/

Does that place still exist??? must have been mid 90's that I was there last ... .so from that era ....
Kaos, Rhino's, Legends, The Escape Club, Thursdays, The Pier, Hobbit, Frog and Frigate,
Most have probably gone.
how I miss those Soton nights, full of drunken Dry Blackthorn fights

Frog and frigate - went about 10 years ago, which was odd as it was was always busy.
I'm 30 so some of these may have been before my time.
McCluskys and new York new York were being knocked down over the Xmas period.
Town is a very different place these days, all seems to be wealthy students in the bedford place areas
Frog and Frigate is closed down.
Oxford Street good.
Start at the Witherspoons at Ocean Village (Admiral Lucius), then to The Grapes, then the Red Lion on the Hidh Street, then the Platform Tavern (Dancing Man micro brewery in the pub) then Margarita for dancing, then the Metropolis Kebab house and you're back where you started!

This. Definitely avoid this.Oxford street is a good night out. You tend to get the 'higher end clientele' there so very rarely any trouble, but because of that, you tend to pay a little more for your beer. Grapes is a nice little pub and does good ales if that's your thing, but you need to be he early to get a seat for the night. I rarely go out anymore (I'm 30 now, waaaay to old for that fun lark ;-)) but if I do, a meal on oxford street (Kuti's curry buffet is nice) followed by a few sherbets in the grapes or white star, then on up to Red Lion (oldest pub in Southampton - on below bar street, next to Mack fruit and veg and opposite a new coop) which is an awesome little pub and, for some reason, is always quiet.

The oldest pub in Southampton (which was originally designed as a pub) is actually the duke of Wellington, up on the walls. The cellar of the Red lion is older however. Oxford street is right on my doorstep, the bars are nice, but not the best place for a lads night. Oxford street is a good night out.
