Anyone else had a problem? Filled my 58 plate Cooper S on Sunday with unleaded from pump 1. (have the receipt) Wife is now stuck in Stubbington, RAC are saying water in the fuel! Car was driving fine until this morning when it started misfiring.

I'd be interested to know if it's a known issue.

cheers

Id put money on it being rain water thats got into the filling station tanks. The water table is really high currently and any fractures in the storage tanks will be prime for a bit of water seepage.

It's fairly high up on the hill mind! I take your point though, thought others should be aware.

If it's proven, I'll be putting a claim in for the fuel and the tow and clear out costs that it looks like we being charged!!

Don't the storage tanks have 'Pressure Sensors' fitted so a leak of any kind would send an alert. (Especially if it was large enough to let that much water in).

Maybe for a new station, the old one I worked in as a student certainly didn't, paperwork and dips were the only real way to know the volume.

I used to work in a petrol station, many, many, many years ago, and we used to dip our tanks regularly with our brass dip rods and put a smear of special cream on the bottom of the rod and then it would show how much water was in the tank.

Water is heavier so it sits at the bottom and therefore they would have had to have been fairly low on fuel for it to be picked up by the pumps.

Hope you get it sorted and the garage do the decent thing.

If I remember correctly the tanks there were only replaced a year or two ago. The place was shut for some time for a big refurbishment, I work more or less opposite at the Uni and that's where I regularly fill up.
