thought i would give you guys a heads up avoid the city centre. a new student building is on fire.

As its a new build it's probably the roofing contractors leaving the gas pot burning over tea break with nobody keeping an eye on it.

It was the roofers that caused it.

I heard a rumour today that no hot work permit was issued by the MC. Again this is just a rumour I heard.

That of could of course be the MC covering their own backside.
No doubt the HSE will get to the bottom of it.

All permits were in place hot works were followed to the letter the roofers had fire extinqiushers that they used but were unable to contain the fire which got hold to quick, it was the insulation that caught alight and the explosion was a spent fire extinqiusher, the roofers done well by moving all gas bottles away from the insulation to the other end of the roof to make it safer for the fire brigade, damage is not known yet as the structural engineers have to vew the area, this biulding is of a post tension concrete frame system.

It was foam insulation and goes up very quickly, hence the thick black smoke.
