If anyone isn't aware, there is a D-Day commemorative flight tonight (June 3rd) from Lee on Solent at 19.15 with up to 15 Dakotas, BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and a Sea Fury. Off to Portsmouth, then back to Daedalus so it will be worth hanging around. A Catalina arrives tomorrow morning and the Dakotas are off to France at 10.00. They leave at minute intervals and will group over Portsdown Hill before heading over the channel.

Also the Red Arrows are doing a mini display over Droxford at 14.25 on Thursday, on their way back from Portsmouth. Should be good.

Have you got any link to an official timing or flight plan anywhere?

This is the official link but it doesn't give a great deal away.

My house overlooks Daedalus and we're hosting a couple of the parachutists so I get to wander into Daedalus tomorrow for a close up look.
Happy days smile

Looks like a flypast en route to Southampton airport, not daedalus. I don't think it'd be big enough for the Lancaster?

Thanks for the heads up though

They were never going to land at Daedalus, it's just a fly past along the coast.
It's just the Dakotas and one or two others at Daedalus.

yes

Just got back, loads of people and aircraft! If by some miracle I've managed to get a half decent pic or two I'll post them up.

The Lancaster flew right over my house in Hedge End about an hour ago. Low, slow and noisy smile

Very impressive set of fly pasts. Had a go but my pics were rubbish.
Glad I was able to walk home because Lee was gridlocked on completion.

I think it was a pretty tough place to shoot, the wind was pushing me about a bit, lots of dull white sky and dark aircraft, not a great combination.

I got there about 6:40 and the place was rammed, I turned around and went up the road and found a nice little cul de sac, parked there and had a 5 min walk back down to the shore. Walked back out and was out on the A27 in short order.

Anyway, I'm not a huge aircraft geek but I think I've got the descriptions right:

Some history here http://beechrestorations.wordpress.com/history-of-...

This page mentions a company call Sky blue Aviation Ltd http://www.abpic.co.uk/search.php?q=Sky%20Blue%20A...

Apparently based down at Exeter.

It was a great evening. I'm trying to work out what I've got photos of. People say a Sea Fury was there - does anyone have a photo of it? And what was the other single engine, two seater, plane in US markings that didn't fly with the Spitfires?

There were a handful of red aeroplanes making a hell of a racket over the water this afternoon. Some had very dodgy motors as they were smoking like a colourful chimney.
Put me right off my Pimms.

I don't think there was a sea fury there.

That aircraft is an North American AT-6D, it was a trainer aircraft. According to this: http://www.fantasyofflight.com/aircraft/wwii/1944-... the RAF ordered 400, I wonder if they ever took delivery ? I'm guessing not.

I think all the aircraft are ID'd correctly on my flickr, if not let me know!
