Out of interest, what part of Hedge End as a few cars were taken from Grange Park a month or so back?

We are over the other side of the village from Grange Park (off Freegrounds Road. My Dad had a brand new X3 (courtesy car) nicked from Bitterne a month ago - exactly the same MO

Pretty pi55ed off, but the car will be replaced with a new one thanks to my insurance policy. Just waiting for locksmith now to come out and change all the house locks, and then need to get my wife's Alfa Spider recoded as they took the keys to that, but left it (for now...)

Sprung the front door, keys were out of site behind closed kitchen door. Didn't hear a thing. House and garage locks all changed now.

Will remove HT leads from Alfa tonight, and then get key/immobiliser recoded tomorrow.

Next will be CCTV & alarm system...

Update...

Tuesday night I had a call from Hampshire Police. They had found my car parked up in a residential area at the bottom of the M3. A good mate of mine is a traffic copper, and had posted it all over Facebook, as had a lot of my other friends. One of his colleagues spotted it (with false plates on), checked the VIN and called it in. Car was immediately recovered by police and taken for forensic testing.

It was then that we realised that both keys had been taken (not kept in same place) so at the moment the police are liaising with the insurance company to work out how to get in with minimal damage and without compromising or contaminating any evidence they might find.

Once they have finished with it, hopefully it will only be a couple of days for getting new keys and recoding and then I can get it back.

Well chuffed that it is coming home, and the bds have not got away with it...

I've read that it's quite common that they steal a car, move it a short distance and park it up. Then if the police don't find it and remove it within a few days the thieves then move it on. Minimises their chances of getting caught.

It's a shame the police don't have the resources to stake it out and wait for the little buggers to return.

my friend has a plant hire business, he often gets generators, diggers etc nicked

he says more often than not they are less than 1/4 or a mile away tucked away somewhere to look like they are there to begin road works

The reason they do this is to see if a tracker is fitted. If its not been collected in a few days they then move it on

Guess the same was done with the jag

I see diy trackers are getting a lot cheaper now - would be interesting to see how worth while they are

even an old smart phone tucked away could be a simple approach, sad we need to even think about this
