I think it is brilliant for the UK and especially the South Coast that the America's cup HQ will, or should, be in Portsmouth.
I hope it gets planning permission

60-odd objections from locals apparently. What utter morons. Portsmouth could really do with a boost like this and all the locals can do is complain about the extra traffic.

Nice to see Southampton (including the local MP) very strongly say if Portsmouth don't want it, then they'll move heaven and earth to make room for them there instead.

The budget for this is HUGE, as well as the cachet of having a world famous, premium sporting event based in your city. Let's face it, Portsmouth is never quite going to be Valencia, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Approved. Reading about the new format for the AC and the first races are likely to start next year to whittle down the contenders.

Great news. I can't help but think that Camber Dock isn't ideal for AC cats?

Exactly. That's what the locals were complaining about. It'll be a huge building completely out of character for the area built on the remains of a timber supported concrete slab and right on the doorstep of the IOW car ferry terminal, which is on the cusp of introducing larger ferries after dredging their berth a short while ago. Daft proposal for the locale.

The space needs to be used for something as it's been a derelict eyesore for far too long. But in its proposed format, this isn't the right thing to have been approved.

Agree, this building is going to dwarf 'Old Portsmouth'. Plenty of locations for it around the solent in its proposed format, needs to be more sympathetic to it's surrounding if it is to be built there IMHO.
