I'm looking for some local guidance. I'm having to organise a venue for refreshments/finger buffet for maybe 30 folk next week after a cremation service at Bassett.

Can anyone recommend a place? Requirements are not too demanding, however, it needs to be fairly close by as most of the party are aging and probably not too keen on a hoon across Hampshire biggrin

Grazing Goat. As long as it's not 6th July as we already have it booked for an after do for our son's christening :-)

That looks about right. No problems, we'll be there on 4th July if it's available.

Didn't that used to be some awful chain carvery type place? Looking at their site now it seems then have changed everything bar knocking the place down.

Reviews look good as well. Only the location(ish) lets it down.

Might be a little far but I wondered if this may be of use

http://www.theconcordeclub.com/

It's near the air port, train station and motorways.

Not the nearest but might suit

No idea if the offer the service you require but might be worth a call

Good luck

Thanks for this. They do advertise funeral receptions so I'll definitely give them a call plus one of my daughters has to get a train back to London by 3pm so handy for Parkway station. thumbup

The Cowherds is just down the road on the Common. It's not got truly spectacular food or anything, but it's OK, and it's got a car park and stands a better chance of fitting you in than most small pubs.

Cowherds or Grazing Goat better bet than Concorde Club.

Would also recommend the Crown in Highfield - spectacularly cheap, good (if old fashioned) pub grub.

The Cowherds is on the list with the Grazing Goat and Concorde Club. All tick the box in terms of proximity so now it's just down to seeing what they offer and how much!

Thanks for all the suggesions - even The Highfield.

There is also the Chilworth arms which is about a 5 min drive away, good food and a nice place. Or there is The OX in north baddesley which is very good.

Thanks to all suggestions. We went with Paul B and the Grazing Goat in the end. Excellent recommendation.

I told Emma how I got the recommendation and she was rather surprised and taken aback!

Excellent food and service and very relaxing. One couple in the party have booked a table for tomorrow evening!

Paul, hope your christening goes well on Sunday.
