I start with South Central Ambulance Service tomorrow as an Emergency Care Assistant (the most junior of emergency ambulance staff) I've got just over 8-weeks of training and then go operational and really looking forward to it. Leaving the Rat Race behind after 30-years and doing a job more challenging and rewarding is a huge draw. I'm bloody terrified wink

Suggested to me as a possible career change by a woman who I did some Advanced Driver training with last year. Four months after putting an application in here I am. Did I mention I'm terrified?

Good Luck Paul, I remember speaking to you about the change up at Ideal. Did Andy buy your T5 off you in the end?

Thanks guys. I'm less terrified now wink

Getting properly stuck into the training and starting to put names to faces. There are 17 of us on this course.

I read a few Paramedic blogs etc. and really fancied it, but was put off by all the stuff about "so many people apply, you'll never get in". Was that your experience, OP, or was it a bit less stress than that?

How old are you OP?

Genuinely interested at what age people are making these changes.

I'm not going in as a Paramedic remember. That is now a 2-3 year full time degree course qualification and they are competitive to get a place on. I'm going in as an Emergency Care Assistant. You can google this to get an idea of the role.

I found the whole process stress free apart from the obvious ones you would get with any Job Application. The process does take time though. I went on the NHS Job Site and requested email notifications of vacancies and one came up quickly. Put the application in and went forward from there. I took about 4-months from application to starting. Some take a bit longer I believe.

Yes, understood. Still, I had heard it was very hard to get in, despite the nature of the job.
