It's almost finished having its new corporate sponsorship paint job. Only a couple of weeks until all the racing yachty types are splashing about in the water and the paint on this thing will virtually still be wet.
I may have to wander over and tell them they've missed a bit.

It's a real shame they didn't go with the red colour theme like initially planned. As a Southampton fan it did tickle me.

I can't believe nobody spotted the original plans as a potential problem...

Its all a joke, Did the Southampton start crying when Ikea was built and they painted it blue?

Pompey need to grow up and realise its nothing to do with their tinpot, poverty spec joke of a football club!

Ikea is hardly the Spinnaker Tower is it ?
Think it looks fantastic now in the blue with gold writing.

Ikea is a sizable landmark I think you will agree.

Just heard on the news that the lottery (who funded the tower) have the hump as they weren't consulted about the Emerates deal. You really couldn't make it up could you!

If I was the emerates I would be pulling the plug.

As a Soton fan I find this histerical and i eagerly await the next instalment.

I think it looks hideous. Another case of money over pride, where corporate guff takes priority.

Except that isn't Emirates corporate colours... I hope they got a discount on the deal after the council furiously back-pedalled.

Why does it need to be their corporate colours just because they are sponsoring something ?
Emirates sponsor lots of events/teams and do not always follow their corporate colours.

You do realise that the majority of both Southampton and Portsmouth citizens are not football fans and couldn't give a stuff about this manufactured supposed rivalry?

Having it in your colours raises brand awareness and, as they were paying for it to be painted, you would like to think they got a discount if they couldn't pick the colour they wanted when the council changed the original deal.

You can see here that red is their preferred colour and the original paint scheme reflected this. http://www.emirates.com/english/about/emirates-spo...

And the first picture on that page is Real Madrid in White and err Gold.
Flick through the other sports on that page - Tennis, Rugby, Football, Horse Racing and you will see plenty of examples of Emirates using different colours.
Even their planes are predominantly white and gold so I don't get the point you're trying to make.

Did they get a discount or not after the colour changed ? Can't answer that, and to be honest I really don't care if they did or not smile

The Portsmouth blue colour is about a lot more than just football. In light of the uproar an emirates executive wouldn't have needed to spend more than half an hour in the city to see they had quite obviously made a mistake, especially at night the blue lighting is everywhere. Which is why they were so quick to change their minds, if it had just being a bunch of football fans kicking up a fuss they would not have cared less.
