Hello South Coasters,

We're on holiday with a load of family in the centre of Chichester for a week from tomorrow. We've no real plans (except visiting WWT Arundel) so would like suggestions for:

Where to eat in Chichester - Not ridiculously expensive but decent non-chain food.
Where to drive locally, any good roads over the South downs?
What else to do in the area (nature, photography musts-sees, museums, castles, beaches, whatever) that is unmissable?

The roads from Chichester to Midhurst is good fun, and the turn off.to Petersfield is also great, the Earl of March pub also does some great food, smidge pricey perhaps, but good food. Plus you could pop into the Goodwood motor circuit, there is a cafe at the aerodrome, and you may get to see the Spitfire or Mustang flying!

Did think about Goodwood but there didn't seem to be any particular events on that week. Is it worth a nose anyway if we're down that way?

Yep

And then if you want a driving road take the road from Lavant to South Harting. Lovely sweeping bends!

There's generally something interesting going on at Goodwood.

Here's the current diary.

Tomorrow GRRC track day should be good!

All the activity next week is worth a watch. All has free entry. Just call in and watch.

There's the control tower cafe on the entry side of the circuit and if you go down the tunnel the NAAFI Wagon sells some fabulous Sausage Baquettes and Burgers using locally farmer meat.

I'd highly recommend going up to Petworth, lovely house and grounds: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/petworth-house/
It's also a very nice village to have a look around grab a bite to eat etc. The drive from Chichester is a good one too so that's a bonus.

As has already been said above, over South Harting way is very nice as well... Uppark house & gardens is near there and is also worth a visit, although if you only wanted to do one of the two I'd go with Petworth.
