Just moved to Southampton (near hospital) from sleepy Dorset.

Whats there to do for a car nut?
Any monthly meets? (PH or otherwise)

Im also a keen all season motorcyclist, so if anyone is keen for a ride sometime soon, then count me in.(likewise are there any monthly bike meets similar to poole bike night?)

Is there a SC Facebook page?

Im 23y/o and undertaking a 4 year electronics/electrical apprenticeship.

Finally, i know no one within an hours drive from where i live now. Can anyone recommend places to go that are fun for someone on there own?

Hi bud,

Welcome to the area! I've been living here for a few years but been busy with work so haven't got to involved in much yet! I was also in the same position as you (I moved down from up North to Portsmouth).

I'm not sure what PH groups there are (and I'd like to know) but there are some other pretty good groups around. Hampshire hot rides is full of good folk (on Facebook) and there are lots of groups they associate with if you're interested in modified cars of all types. They are very PH like and do not like silly driving, burn outs and upsetting locals at car meets.

I'm sure some far more knowledgeable folk will be along soon but there seems to always be a lot of people who meet up the hill (Portsdown Hill) and out the back of Wickham. Be careful though as those roads are full of hazards and heavily policed!

Don't forget to check out the groups they are associated with, there are some around the Southampton area I think!

Oh and say hello, I'm the guy who posted the sickly dyno graphs!

There are two PH meets locally. Both advertised here. Bart runs a meet in Dorset (yeah, ironic eh?) at the Iford golf club, probably finished for the winter now. There's another at the West Meon pub. Follow the A272 from Winchester and you can't miss it.

Fun stuff to do? Depends what you're into.
The Hamble kayak club meet at Botley once a week on Sundays. The New Forset club meet at Buckler's Hard. Hamble are better geared to take novices.

There's an adult kayak club at Woodmill in the centre of Southampton. Their sessions are organised more like lessons than the other clubs, but Woodmill are chuffing expensive.

There are dry ski slopes on the Sports Centre in Southampton, at Matchams and at Calshot activity centre.

Calshot run a variety of other courses, climbing etc. They also have a velodrome.

There are cycling clubs, crochet clubs (I mean knitting, not knocking balls through hoops) and a paragliding club. You're going to have to tell us what you consider to be "fun".

If you've never been then Beaulieu Motor Museum is fairly close to you now - oh and you can get to Brooklands/MB World in about an hour.

Regarding things to do - if you are sporty then the Sports Centre is ten minutes walk from the hospital and has various sports clubs and a dry ski slope.

Yeah, 20 years ago. Courses in the evening, about eight of us from memory. Got to an OK standard, could use the rails and things. But my experience is so long ago it's probably not relevant. The ski slope isn't even run by the same people any more,

Nice! I'm pretty sure olympic snowboarder Billy Morgan learned his trade on the Southampton slopes http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/apr/16/snowb...spin
