Hi all

Can any one recommend me anywhere local to Fareham or Chichester where I can get my altenator tested and repaired if nessacerry(sp)? I have used a chap in Park gate before, does any one know if he is still there?
Also while I have the alternator out I would like to get my fan and housing bead blasted and powder coated so can anyone recommend me somewhere to get it done, I have thought about Scruse and Crossland in gosport as one potential.

Any recomedations greatly welcomed.

Cheers

Paul

Paul,

Try Mike at Just Alternators and Starters. His very limited website is http://www.jasm.co.uk/starters.htm, but there is enough info to contact and find him. He's tucked away a bit now on his farm, but basically he is behind the Subaru garage in Botley.I have used him many times over the years with no complaints, and he has a quick turnaround too, contrary to his laid back attitude!

Good luck.

Cheers mate, I tried the chap at jsam but he wanted to charge me just to test it! as he said it would be a lot effort to set it up, I had my doubts so in the end I went to Power Components Nr Emsworth where a very helpfull chap called roger tested the alternator for free ( took 30 seconds) and found it to be faulty, then repaired and replaced bits all completed within 24 hours for less than £60 all in.
Bloody good service and would highly recomend him to anyone.

But that may be an assumption!

Never had an issue with Just Starters, refurbed a Gti alternator for me last year, gave it back to me and it had a faulty regulator and melted a battery, told him about it and he sorted it out straight away, can't ask for more.

I don't think so as I popped in while passing and explaned that I would bring the alternator in but it was currently having the fan removed by Boarhunt.
I think what put him off was the fact that I said to him when removing the alternator I noticed the earth strap had come very loose and this could be the problem but I did not want to refit it to find out there was somthing more serious wrong and have to remove it again.
I think he probably thought he would get no work out of it so thought he would charge me to test it, his loss I guess as within 30 seconds he could have known this and had my money for a rebuild. However all said I'm sure if he had fixed it it would have been a top job, in fact I had him rebuild my alternator on a 944S2 about 6 or 7 years ago (when they were in Park Gate) and was very happy with the cost and results, just one of those things, but I as said before I can't praise Power Components enough for a great job well done.

Anyway I have just re-fitted with all the shiny newly powder coated housing and fan and finaly have lights that work and a rather bling looking engine baybiggrin

Sorry didn't mean to rant, I was a few beers down when I wrote itdrink
I used Scruse and Crossland in Gosport in the end great service, only took a couple of days and cost £35.00 inc the bead blasting so really chuffed.

Here is a before and after shot of my engine bay, it may not be to every ones taste but I am really please and in total cost less than a tonwoohoo.

And all finished with a bit of a polish:

Christ my memory is really bad, I was just googling somewhere to get an alternator regulator set for the GT40 and came across this post by me, about my car! I knew I had used a chap in Westbourne previously but completely forgotten the rest, In fact I have no recollection of the 944 work at all, Doh!

I really must lay off the beers.... :drinking:
