Huge savings on renewal insurance
Discussion
Below is the thread I posted on The Volvo Owners Club web site, but I thought I would like to share this experience with my fellow PHers, hope it can help someone to get a better deal;
I have had my V70 R AWD now for just over 10 years, when I purchased it I paid £22,000, I insured it from day 1 with Volvo Owners Insurance (VOI)) on the recommendation of its original owner. My first premium was £354 full comp. with protected bonus, over the years I stayed with them and my premium never went higher than £375 when I declared all my modifications.
My renewal premium for this year dropped from £350 to £325, so I was quite keen to re insure with VOI, however, I considered the fact that however good a condition my car was in with just 59,000 on the clock, if the worst happened, I would only get market value, as it is not old enough for classic or agreed value insurance.
So, on the recommendation of someone on the forum who mentioned http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/ I got a quote from them, again I declared the modifications and accepted a limit of 3,500 miles per year, with a £200 excess, they asked me my renewal quote which I declined to give them, their quote came out at just £199.88 with NO HIDDEN small print.
With such a huge saving, it was a no brainier but to leave VOI. This evening I phoned VOI to advise them, that with regret, I would not be renewing my policy, and requested proof of NCB. They asked me my reasons, I told them of the massive saving I was going to make, and to my surprise and joy, they offered to try and price match it, after some background negotiating, they came back with an offer of £212.86 which I immediately accepted, having the advantage of only genuine Volvo parts being used and Volvo body shop repairs, and a personal account manager.
So I have come out of this a real winner, however, I would throughly recommend Peter James to all others, but of course, if you can get cover with VOI, that is without a doubt the best option.
