Hi all, I am thinking of getting a new car. The original idea was to go for a ZR160 but after thinking about it I might go for a Leon Cupra or a Octavia vRS. Now here comes the favour...

Would anybody in the Dorset/Hampshire area mind taking me out in their car to show me what it is like power and handling wise? So I can make a prompt-to decision.

Pint for anyone who can help smile.

Should mention I am looking at the MK1 versions.

Get the Leon Cupra R if you go that way, much more of a car with those over the regular Cupra.

Early R is 210hp (AWK engine I *think*)
Later ones (53 plate on) are 225 (BAM engine).
You can tell the difference because the letters on the cupra badge on the back are red on a 225, black on a 210. The 225 also has a centre mark on the steering wheel.
210s were black, red or yellow. There were a few platinum ones made (limited editions), the 225s were available in red, black, yellow, platinum and silver.
Only options were recaro seats front and rear and sat nav. 225s may of had an extended option range later on. Come loaded as standard though - 4 pot brembo brakes, climate control, 6spd box, electric mirrors etc..

1.8T is a good engine but not especially torquey low down, needs revving to keep it going. Car does suffer from understeer but nothing out of the ordinary for fwd hatches.

Had a 210 for around 4 years, never really gave me any trouble.

This is an app post as i may well be looking to replace the run around and I'm thinking of the cupra R, however i'm also considering the TDI FR but not sure what to do as these can be chipped to 200bhp and have the eco of diesl. The problem is that the cost of diesl may well make the R the best choice all round. What do you think.

I looked into the R and there's not much in it over the standard cupra apparently. They are pretty much the same. But I've made my mind up on what I want. Be wary though... If you chipped it not many people want to know insurance wise. Admiral won't entertain me in a chipped car.
