Hi All,

Calling any PH'ers in the South of England (East Sussex direction). I am based in Belfast NI, and I am interested in a lowish mileage Porsche 996 C2 Cabriolet that they have for sale. Can someone who knows a few things about the Porsche Marque check this out for me and let me know what they think (condition, mechanicals, mileage, Tyres/brakes/discs, paintwork/scratches/dents etc.). This would assist me greatly before coming all the way over. Thanks and I owe you a pint!! I can be called on 07872130027 and/or by e-mail brnmurtagh@yahoo.co.uk

I have a 996 C4 but really don't know enough to check the car out for you I'm afraid. Have you posted on 911UK? They're very good & you may well find someone who could help you smile

Hi Simon- Hope you can maybe go and see the car for me. Do you know much about Porsche's and what to look for? Their address is:

Neva Cars Ltd
Chelsea Garage
Ringles Cross
Uckfield
East Sussex
TN22 1HE

I am really really fussy about my cars. So in addition to a review and condition of all of the expensive mechanicals/things that can go wrong in a Porsche (engine, oil seals, suspension, clutch, gearbox, brakes/discs/tyres, I am also very keen on your views on overall condition - wear and tear, paintwork, dents/dings/scratches, alloy wheels, hood condition and window, interior wear and tear (seats, carpets, condition of the trim). Generally your views on the car and would you buy it if you were doing it yourself.

To give you an idea of what I am like, I attach a few pics of my current car. It is a 1999 Boxster with 11.5k miles on the clock from new. It has never been in the rain and is garaged for most of the year. I like to use it when it is a nice sunny day (hard in NI!!) and to go out with my wee boy Jack (4)............and so lies the problem. I have a new wee boy (Ben) who is one. I know next year that the 2 of them will want to go out with me..........hence my need for a 4 seater. The $64,000 problem - I want the best car possible but on a budget. They are looking £18k for it. I know that is not a lot of money for a Porsche but it is a lot for me and hard to justify as a second car/toy that sits in the garage for a lot of the year. I do get quite a lot of flak as it is from wifey!!

Thanks for whatever you can do for me.

Brian, when are you hoping to come over?

I work 20 minutes away, so I MAY be able to help. Keep in mind I won't know much about the mechanicals aside from any odd noises to look out for & obvious signs of wear which I can relay via taking a bundle of snaps.

I finish quite late most evenings & may be able to bargain heading there for lunch 1 day, but either way, the offer is there smile

HI Iron,

Thanks for your offer.

Basically just wanting a few PH'ers to look at the car and give me feedback as per my posting.

If it is seen to be a good one (and noting my anal standards!!), I would imamgine I would leave a deposit and come over mid to late August to complete. Yep.........the more detailed pics the merrier (front, back, sides, inside all angles, roof up/down, wheeels, both boots, underneath if poss.

Thanks,

Brian

I had a look at the car and for a 12yr old it looks mechanically strong. Full service history from the supplying dealer and one owner bodes well. He also had the tryes and brakes replaced not long before selling so wasnt scrimping on services.

The paintwork is a bit marked but with the exception of the rear wing and bonnet it should polish out with a proper valet.

The bonnet looks like something has been too high in the front storage and been crushed when closing. A small mark in the paint and possibly not worth painting as it would involve quite a large blend area.

The rear o/s wing I think does need paint. It is prominant as on the upper of the wing and would make a big difference.

Frint bumper looks like it has had paint at some point (notable lack of stone chips etc..) but doesnt stand out as a different colour. Rear bumper has a couple of marks. One appears to have been caused by touching a post which has givena slight crease to the plastic.

New tyres, wheels are "ok" but a couple have small area of corrosion to the leading edge of the blades.

All in for a twelve year old car it looks ok. The mechanical and single owner are it's benefits. The paintwork and interior need a jolly good clean up but nothing screams run away.

The car hadnt beeen prepped for sale and looked honest to me.

Hi Simon,

Many many thanks for that and I owe you one.

I know you say it is homest but to do properly there is probably still a fit fair bit to do.............and I like bodywork/interiors that I can eat my dinner off. I may wait for a bit now as I am off on my family holiday on Wednesday for 2 weeks. I'll pick this up again when I come back.

Speak to you later.

Brian
