Part Time Mechanics Course?

Hi Guy,

I am currently on a placement year down in Bournemouth. I have wanted to do something like this for a while so I just have some experience doing simple tasks ect.
So does anybody know or heard of a good place to do something like this in the evening or late afternoon?

i did a evening course at Eastleigh College a couple of years back, basic servicing i think but you can do more advanced if you want.
They had a total refit at the time as well so the facilities were good.

O right did you find it helpful and find you can work on your car afterwards more easily to make it worth it?
How long did it last for and also what were the people like on the course?

it was helpful but to be honest there were too many people for the course and not enough lecturer/mechanics etc. So those that didn't know one end of a spanner from another were waiting around.
I just enjoyed poking around the cars and getting dirty really.

This is something I have been considering for a while... Got reasonably good mechanical skills, but want something that takes it to that next level. i.e. what to do if you break a bolt and can't get it out, that kind of thing, and a bit more in depth stuff like rebuilding an engine.

I did a three year Evening Carpentry Course at Eastleigh College a few years back (and qualified), saw the Mechanics Section when I was there, but when I enquired at the time was told that they only did full time mechanical courses... Maybe things have changed, might have to have a look in to it.
